Upgrading from MM2019 to Samplitude Music Studio2019

Former user wrote on 5/5/2019, 1:24 PM

After my struggles with countless problems (out of memory, VST's not loading) I've come to the conclusion that MM cannot handle the complexity of my projects. They are always over 20 tracks and it seems that a 32 bit program just can't handle it. What I didn't know is that MM is designed as an entry level program and that Samplitude Music Studio would be more for my purposes.

I've heard that you can still use all of your purchases instruments and pools in Samplitude Music Studio that I bought for MM and ALSO that I can import my projects (including the one I can't seem to continue due to out of memory issues) into Music Studio.

Can somebody please confirm that this is so?

Also, can I order the program online and download it immediately from Magix?

If I would have known more at the beginning, I would have opted for the 64 bit programme on the outset.

Look forward to hearing from somebody on this as I look forward to continuing my projects.

Soundpools can be used in any program. Instruments, I believe cannot. They are tied to the program you purchased them with. It does surprise me that anyone buys the instruments at full price. the only thing I bought was the Independence Sampler Player in a sale which provides many similar sample sounds plus it's a VSTi so works in any program. You can get a trial version of Music studio. Music Maker projects will not be compatible as far as I know.

Thanks for the reply Graham. I DID wind up buying a few instruments for MM and spent about hundred quid on them. I wonder if Magix can give me a coupon or something so I can get the Music Studio versions of the instruments without paying again. MM just can't cope with the number of tracks I use.

Not being able to transfer projects is a problem as I have my current project causing problems with MM. I want to finish it so I suppose the only way would be to record strictly audio only tracks until it's complete.

Hi Graham. Just found this article that states that you can take everything with you when upgrading INCLUDING projects. It states it twice but also states that instruments from MM are not compatible with SMS. very confusing!

Trevor,

I suggest that you download, install and try out Samplitude Music Studio before buying it to make sure that it works. You won't be able to download the additional instruments, Soundpools and some other stuff, but you will get a good idea as to whether or not your problems are resolved.

There is currently a MusicMaker (MMM) upgrade on that includes Samplitude Music Studio (SMS), however, as you have discovered and as indicated in other recent posts here, instruments purchased with MMM will not work with SMS. However, the Soundpools will works. Since the article that you referenced was written, Magix has removed its proprietary mcxogg format, replacing it with your choice of ogg or wav. Thus the same Soundpools now work with MMM, SMS and Samplitude Pro X.

On the other hand, I suggest that you also look at Samplitude Pro X4. Download X4 Suite and try it out. You need to be able to find a price of 149USD. I keep receiving offers to upgrade from SMS (an old version) to Samplitude Pro X4 Suite for 149$. Unfortunately, there is no comparison table showing SMS vs Pro X, so you have to wade through the features of each.

Pro X4 Suite includes a wide range of instruments - see this thread and also 70GB of instruments with Independence. You likely won't need to purchase any more instruments as most of the Vita instruments were taken from the Independence instruments. For the difference in price between SMS and Pro X4 Suite, you get much, much more.

The other thing is that you may just find that one feature that SMS does not do and that you would really like to have, and then you'd be unhappy that you got SMS instead or Pro X4 Suite.

Kraznet has produced about 200 tutorials on YT about Samplitude Pro and there is a dedicated Samplitude forum. You have to join to see the posts, except for the newcomer forum.

Lastly, Samplitude Pro X4 Suite, not non-Suite, and watch for special pricing. Definitely do not pay the full price.

Thanks John. A magix support person has offered me a free upgrade to Samplitude and I have requested that it be Pro X4 Suite. Whether he will agree to that I do not know but I don't see why not considering I have spent an extra £100 on material from the store. They are saying that my problems may not be due to 32 bit limitation but I think they probably are due to the fact that smaller projects are no problem. I'm told that my projects will transfer over as well although with limitations. Instruments that can't cross over will cause an issue.

I just want to pursue my new hobby with minimal problems.

Hi Trevor,

You can open .mmm files in Samplitude which will save as .vip files. The inverse cannot be done.

Yes, any instruments that you don't have will cause a problem. I haven't tested this, but I think that Samplitude just replaces the instruments with the GM default when you open the project. Then you can select an instrument from the Independence library. There is a list of all of these Independence instruments that someone posted somewhere on the Samplitude forum.
