upgraded pc

upgraded to win 7 professional, installed 32G RAM, SSD drive. After years used a windows update, (when things run well, I believe there is no reason to update)

Magix 6X will not open, I now get "failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect"

I thought reloading the program would help

I tried to uninstall the program via start/MagixX6.../unstall, and nothing happens.

Used control panel to uninstall program, and still see the programs listed there.  I find them all over the program folders & user directories.  I renamed them all with Magi..BAK.

Tried to install the program again, and always get an error that software is already installed.

Used Norton and did a registry cleaner too.

I have been communicating with the support staff, and they are very responsive, but I think they went to bed. ( I'm from midwest US)

Anyone have any ideas?

Dell i7, 64-bit, 3.4Ghz

I'll let you know the outcome.

Hi

. . . . installed 32G RAM, SSD drive . . . .

For what purpose?  Is this the only drive in the computer? Please give us your full computer specification.

. . . . when things run well, I believe there is no reason to update . . . .

Not recommended - you must apply updates to protect your Windows from security flaws, bugs etc as they are discovered and patched by Microsoft.  Same goes with any software - always keep it up to date as patches are released.

. . . . and still see the programs listed there.  I find them all over the program folders & user directories.  I renamed them all with Magi..BAK.

Tried to install the program again, and always get an error that software is already installed. . . . .

Did you use the Magix cleaner tool available here before attempting to re-install? If not you must - this removes all the remnants that the un-installer leaves behind. Note you may still get  some empty folders left behind,

. . . . Used Norton and  . . . .

If you have the Antivirus Suite this may be interfering with the installation process.

 . . . . a registry cleaner too ,. . . .

Should not be necessary if you use the Magix Cleaner tool.  Registry cleaner tools should be used as an absolute last resort, an over aggressive claener can make things worse rather then better.

John

Ok, found out what my problem was, I hope others will learn from this.

I've had a great experience from the Magix tech support.  They were tolerant of me, I have got to give them credit.

I cloned a SSD from my HD, and that switch does not work well for Magix, and many other tools i have.

They advised me to start clean, reinstall the operating system (Win 7 pro), then reinstall everything else. I was pretty much backed up by then, so I did it.

Placed the SSD into the PC, reinstalled everything, unbelievable. Reinstalled X6 without a hitch.  Editing is sliky smooth.  So, my storage capacity is now:

750G SSD for operating system, and software, working directory for video projects, additional 2T HD 7500 rpm, for additional storage and 1TB for additional backup. 3 other backup drives via USB.

My Dell is about 4 years old, and consists of:

Win i7 pro, quad core, 3.4Ghz, 32G ram, AMD HD 6700 graphics card.  Very, very noticable performance upgrade.

Once again I would like to thank tech support for guiding me on this.
