Update on Video Pro X13 and next steps

MAGIX_Redaktion wrote on 6/25/2021, 8:17 AM

Dear community,

we want to provide you with the instruction on how to downgrade from Video Pro X13 to Video Pro X12 so that you can get back to your personal and professional activities as usual. Here’s how you do it:

  1. To use Video Pro X12 temporarily, you have to uninstall Video Pro X13 via the Control Panel and the sub-item “Programs and Features” first.
  2. Please also delete the following two folders:
    C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Video_Pro_X13
    C:\User\Your_username\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\Video_Pro_X13

    If you do not see the above-mentioned folders, you have to unhide the "hidden folders" first. To do this, go to "Explorer Options" in the Control Panel and activate the option "Show hidden files, folders and drives" under "View".

  3. In the next step, please download Video Pro X12 via the following link and install it:
    https://dl03.magix.net/videoprox12_dlm_izdg7q.exe

  4. You can use your usual serial number to unlock the program.

  5. To update your software to Video Pro X13 at a later time, you just have to install the patch that is offered after starting the program.

We are currently working hard to provide you with a satisfactory update of Video Pro X13. We will publish it in a timely manner, so that you can work with the latest version as soon as possible.

Best wishes,
MAGIX Redaktion

@MAGIX_Redaktion

Thank you for this.

Does this uninstall procedure also remove any additional third-party effects (e.g. NewBlue, or ProDAD, etc.) that the user already has and which have successfully transferred from an earlier version of VPX to the current VPX 13? I suspect it should not but some reassurance on this would be extremely welcome!

If such third-party items are removed I suspect more than a few users will be reluctant to follow this advice, even though it should ensure a properly-functioning VPX installation. Speaking personally, the thought of having to reinstall all the effects etc. that are currently on my system is a dilemma; something like being "caught between the devil and the deep blue sea"!

Hi Stefan

Thanks for this very reassuring, helpful information.

Further to Jeff's comment it raises the question in me as to whether installing (and subsequently removing) the Pro X 13 trial would in fact over write or disturb VPX12 in any way?

The new Infusion Engine3 looks very interesting - I hope you can sort out the problems soon.

All the best to the team in Berlin.

Hi @emmrecs, hi @Scenestealer,

Thanks for the question - sorry for the delayed response.

The external plugins should still be available once you downgraded.

Best wishes,

@MAGIX_Redaktion

Hi again!

Thanks for your post.

I can confirm that the procedure you gave in your original post does work without problem; VPX12 now reinstalled and, so far as I can tell on a very quick check, all third-party plugins, effects etc. are fully picked up and available in VPX12, without any intervention from me. The version now installed in 18.0.1.95, which I think, was the last release. Can anyone confirm this?

With regard to the forthcoming (re-)release of VPX13: I realise this is not current Magix' policy, but, in order to avoid repeating the debacle of the (obviously far too early) previous release of VPX13, is there any method by which any existing installation of the product, in this case VPX12, could NOT be automatically uninstalled by the installation process of VPX13, but the user could be granted a "grace period" of, say, 10 days, to check that everything in the new release "works"? At the end of the 10 days he/she would then have to choose to either uninstall the earlier version in order to continue to use the newer, or vice versa. Not positively making that choice might render both versions inoperable.

Yes Jeff, that was the point of my question above, where I was asking if the VPX13 Trial could be installed on the same machine along side of VPX12 ie. without causing VPX12 to be overwritten / wiped out in the process.

I think Stefan misunderstood my question.

Hi @emmrecs,

Oh yes, sorry for the confusion.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to install both versions on your computer.

Best wishes,

@Scenestealer

Hi Peter,

With apologies for accidentally duplicating your question!! I hadn't thought of whether installing the VPX13 trial could achieve what I was suggesting!

The fact that one cannot install even the trial of VPX13 without the forced uninstall of VPX12 is not ideal, IMO. Especially given the plethora of problems with this initial release of 13!

Hi

I agree Jeff, and there has been comment about this in the German Forum suggesting the installer should be able to create new directories / folders for subsequent versions, as there are often problems with the new releases.

I would go further and say this is completely unacceptable. That and the fact that we can't get access to patches if we do roll back to the previous version really leaves a sour taste in one's mouth. Does Magix actually want people to buy their software or not? I'd love to recommend it's software but I'm very reluctant to because of this approach.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

AAprods - hear hear. The latest 'upgrade' actually 'downgrades' everything I have come to like and respect about Magix. And - fool that I am - I actually PAID FOR IT!!!

Now nearly August and still waiting for version of X13 (now on v107) that will actually create Bluray without crashing on any of my PCs with 2 different graphics cards!

With the bug fixes just announced regarding 19.0.1.107 (see post without ability to comment), how many known, outstanding issues remain?

Are some of you getting along fine now with VPX13? Or is is still best to go back to VPX12, at this point (.107)?
