Hi @Former user, Download the program installer (link below) and reinstall SFP. There is no need to uninstall prior or reinstall the other plug-ins and utilities). All your custom settings, presets and such should remain.

Can you click the (other) window (or SOUND FORGE ICON) in the task bar to get to the update window?

Former user wrote on 9/9/2021, 12:18 PM

@Product-Owner_OOO_ Yes, I tried to click the window and cannot access it. The only window I get is the SFP one. The other window will not show up. I wonder if it is one of those Magix ghost updates I read about, an update that is not really there because my main workstation shows there is nothing to be updated but the mobile one says there is a major update available. Strange.

@rraud Thanks! Muchos Gracias!

In my experience (and other reports indicate), the updater does not always work the way it is supposed to. Reinstalling SF with the latest build, basically does the same thing, but it is not quite as easy as one or two clicks.

@rraud Do you think the "Magix Service Center" where the user logs in also has the latest build? Would they update? Also, I am not sure how to compare your link against my current build version. I checked 'about' and did not see anything related to build number.

rraud wrote on 9/9/2021, 4:30 PM

Yes, the files in the 'Magix Service Center > My Products' or the Magix Download Center are all the latest product builds. The last characters after the version # indicates the build, for instance, "SOUND_FORGE_Pro_15.0.0.64_DLV_US_x64_210726_22-22_35915D4F_15_0_0_64" is SFP-15 build 64.
.. Not to be confused with the x64 characters which is the bit version. The 32 bit version would have US_x86 instead of US_x64.

@rraud I redownloaded from the service center and the major update indicator is still there with no real way to update. It's probably just a bug.

rraud wrote on 9/9/2021, 6:35 PM

Did you click to install SF-15 once you downloaded the install manager from the aforementioned centers . No reports of bugs that I am aware in that regard.
If you did reinstall, what build is indicated in "Help> About Sound Forge". If you have not rebooted the PC, the could be the cause of the message.

Former user wrote on 9/9/2021, 6:40 PM

@rraud I rebooted the machine several times, re-installed, the major update is still indicated as available. There is absolutely no build number in the about section. Weeeirrrddd.

wolric wrote on 9/10/2021, 7:08 AM

@Former user So the missing build number could be the problem. Can you please make a screen shot from the first page of your About box?

rraud wrote on 9/10/2021, 8:56 AM

@Former user, Do you have the (x86) 32 bit version installed as well? .. though it should not make a difference, assuming you are opening the version you reinstalled
In any case. this is what you should be seeing in 'Help> About SOUND FORGE Pro' under the 'General' tab.

Former user wrote on 9/10/2021, 2:15 PM

@rraud I notice the build number is not on your 'about' section either...

rraud wrote on 9/10/2021, 3:23 PM

the build number is not on your 'about' section either.

It most certainly is on my screen shot @Former user, unless I am hallucinating,

Former user wrote on 9/10/2021, 4:55 PM

@rraud Okay, my bad, but it is confusing when I see the two 64's, like it just means the bit version or whatever. Okay, I got 64 as well for build and a pending major update with a window I cannot access...My desktop has the same build, no pending update, just the lappy.

rraud wrote on 9/10/2021, 5:16 PM

Launch SF and when it asks to update, select 'later', Then go to the 'File' menu and click 'Reset & clear cache".

Former user wrote on 9/10/2021, 6:17 PM

@rraud Oh goodie, a nice little error pops up, "Could not start scan server VST3-Scanner-32bit..." so I just ignored that message. The ghost update is still available, the windows still cannot be accessed. I can just wait for a real update to surface, I guess and maybe the message will go away.

rraud wrote on 9/11/2021, 12:11 PM

Try uninstalling the 'Update Notifier' option, assuming it was installed at the same time SF was.

If the SF reset/cache clear did not help, I would uninstall/reinstall Sound Forge .. but uninstall using a third-party application. Most folks here (including Magix staff) recommend 'Revo Uninstall', that can remove left-over registry entries and other pertinent data the default uninstall leaves behind, which is usually the root of recurring issues.

If the issue persists, request a support ticket @ Magix Sound Forge Tech Support.
