dear all
i have tried everything to make this work to no avail. trying to record any form of audio from the internet however, i'm getting no signal in sound forge studio 14 or 15 (which i've got on free trial). i have a soundcard evga nu audio, but can't see that as being an issue as its only configured to be the output for playback to my speakers by spdif.
any suggestions or advice would be really appreciated as i'm losing it here.

'Some 'PCs allow "recording what you hear" natively, some do not,. All my Dell PC desktops and laptops going back to Win 95, allowed it, OTOH, I had two Toshiba Satellites that could not without a third-party utility...
As I recall "Record what you hear" was originally a term used on the old Sound Blaster cards. On most RealTek cards, it is refereed to as "Stereo mix" so if that is what you have, select 'Stereo mix" instead of the mic, line, or whatever as the record source in the PC's sound manager settings... Then go to SF's Audio Device type settings and select "Stereo mix" as the "Audio Device type in "Options> Preferences> Audio> Record tab". In either case, the speaker/headphone volume will control the record level.
If the native method does not work, another option is using VB-CABLE, which is a virtual audio cable. All audio coming in the 'virtual cable' input is forwarded to the output.
You can also download the video from YouTube. Open the file in Sound Forge (or Vegas) and
'Save as' in the desired audio format. There are a number of YT download apps, most of the experts over on the Vegas Pro forum favor "4K Video Downloader".

thank you for the suggestions. have done everything and even downloaded and installed vb-cable but still no joy. have no idea whats going on anymore. thinking of reinstalling windows and starting again.
I am not familiar with 'evga nu audio' soundcard.
In the Windows OS 'Manage Sound Devices' what is available for input devices? Look for 'Stereo out'. Some sound cards just do not support the loop-through option to record what is going to the speakers (or HPs).You also may want look in the Win Privacy settings. If the Mic is disabled, the 'Stereo out' may be as well.
If the PC has an integrated soundcard in the MB you could try using that. I do not think a Win OS reinstall with help, Download the file from YT and work with that..
