Unable to find recording mode on Sound Forge Audio Studio 12.6

Hi everyone. I have working with the basics of Sound Forge Audio Studio 12.6, and I have to ask: is there no way to choose the recording mode on this product? I tried consulting its help files and manual, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere, not in the recording window or in any of the options.

The problem right now is that when I try to record a second time, it doesn't start recording from where I place the cursor, but at the end of the entire sound file (appending, if you will). Is there a way to make it do what I think is called "automatic retake"? I'm using a Windows 10.

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Hi @John-Zhang , and welcome to the Sound Forge forum.

I am not very familiar with AS (Audio Studio) but it may be similar to Sound Forge 'Pro' (11 and later). Some of the record settings are in the "View> Record Options" menu. For instance, the multiple 'take' recording destination is set in "Mode" context menu; 'Normal' (new take starts at cursor ..overwrites the previous if cursor is so placed), 'Create new windows' (new timeline & file for each) or 'Create Regions' (new take starts after the pevious w/ Region markers.. same timeline). Sample rate and such is determined by selecting a 'New' file parameters, or when saving as.

Below is the record procedure for Sound Forge Pro: AS may differ some.
- Go to "View> Record options" and make any parameter changes if so desired.
- Leave the "Record options" window open and select "Arm" (shortcut: Ctrl+ Shift+ A)
- Viewing the record level meters in the Record options window, make any necessary record level adjustments in Audio box.
- Commence recording by selecting "Record" in the transport (shortcut: Ctrl+ R) .

Thanks for answering, @rraud. Unfortunately Audio Studio doesn't have a "Record Options" dialogue box. However, it seems the terminology used for the sections are called slices. Maybe there's a way to disable slice editing?

I perused the SF AS manual and the Record UI appears different than Pro,

I think 'Slices' are similar to 'Events' (in Vegas, CD Arc and SF Pro), which can be divided, moved around, x-faded ect. I had a beta test version of AS installed briefly, but did not work with it much. Sorry I cannot be of more help. Please update us on any findings you come across.

Thanks for looking into it. I'm merely inconvenienced by having it start new recordings at the end, but it just means I will have to do my retakes within the same take and use markers as reference points to delete the ones I don't need.
