Unable to change audio channels on duplicate videos, uses the same one

TemBoy04 wrote on 5/28/2023, 8:36 PM

I recorded a test video using OBS with 2 channels, I made some settings there to record the game audio on channel 1 and my voice on channel 2. I put the video into Movie Studio 2023 but it won't separate both channels, only only one of them. I can switch them on one file but when I duplicate or copy & paste it and then try to switch the channels one of the files it will do one of 2 things:\

1. The channel will be the same for both files.

2. Changing on one of the files won't do anything.

This will happen even if it's grouped or ungrouped, even with 2 files with video and audio combined in one track. The "video and audio on one track" setting is unchecked. I can't understand why the program can't separate the 2 audio channels on the video. Any solutions for this?

Hi

. . . .  I can switch them on one file but when I duplicate or copy & paste it and then try to switch the channels one of the files it will do one of 2 things . . . .

This is normal behaviour, to get both channels the audio needs extracting to seperate audio objects.

@TemBoy04

Greetings, this is, I think, more of an OBS setup issue than a Magix issue.

The main thing you need to do in OBS is allocate a dedicated audio track for your audio(s) remembering that if you choose "desktop aufio" anything you record will be on the one track so separation is impossible on that audio track. OBS has introduced an "Application Audio Capture (BETA)" in Sources which I've found to work very well and makes life much easier.

I'm using OBS Studio 29.1.2 (64 Bit) with Hotfix

There are many OBS tutorials around for Multi Audio Recording. a quick search revealed this https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/high-quality-recording-with-multiple-audio-tracks-in-advanced-output-mode.1388/ as well as several YouTube videos.

Hi Andy

. . . . I think, more of an OBS setup issue than a Magix issue . . . .

The behaviour of the audio in MMS as described by @TemBoy04  is what you get with multiple audio track video recorded as described in the article you linked to,when imported into MMS/MEP.

This issue is is not limited to OBS, any video recorded with multiple tracks (streams) from other similar software which can record, for example, program audio and commentary to separate audio tracks will give the same behaviour when imported into any video editor which does not support multiple track audio.

Hi Andy.

While this is slightly off topic for this problem, IMO, one of the many benefits of using Video Pro X as an upgrade from Magix Movie Studio is the seamless ability to separate multiple audio tracks from a video or audio file and go as far as to split them up to mono tracks for editing. If anyone had to separate audio on a regular basis I think the upgrade would be worth considering.

Ray.
