UI freeze during rendering

Hi. I just got the Movie Edit Pro Plus 2013. Every time the program does a rendering or a special effects job (the blue bar moving at the bottom) using either CPU or hardware acceleration (CUDA) the program UI freezes completely for the duration of the job. I can not even move or minimize the editor window (to do something else on a computer). For example if I click the minimize button on the main window during the rendering job it will complete the action only after the rendering job is finished. Is that how this software supposed to work or something is wrong with my installation ?

Definitely not how it should work. I go off and do all sorts of other stuff during rendering with MEP 2013 Premium (and many versions before that).

You've not provided any details, but I assume your PC meets the required specs?

Try File > Settings > Reset to deafults, but it sounds more like an installation glitch.

If nothing emerges soon from this thread discussion I'd suggest you submit a formal Technical Support Request.

My PC is pretty lousy by today standards (AMD X4, 4Gb, 9800GT) but then I only do small and simple projects now. I think the problem may be related to the fact that I use Windows XP x64. I'll try to do CUDA driver update and MEP update and see what happens. If it still does not work - I guess I'll live with it. I can probably make MEP window small before starting a rendereing job. The OS itself does not freeze during the rendering, I can still go to the start bar, only the MEP window / UI stops responding blocking the desktop icons access.

OK, in that case I think I misunderstood, I thought you couldn't work in other apps? MEP itself should be unresponsive while rendering. Why do you even need to minimise or resize it? Doesn't Alt+Tab work? Or the Windows Taskbar?

The top level MEP window functions are not operational during the rendering process - I can not minimize it or move it around the desktop. This is not typical for a windows program, usually the top application window can be moved / minimized even if the program does some heavy computation.

I can get to the taskbar and launch other applications but icons / objects on the desktop below the MEP window are not accessible. Now that I know that this is "normal" I can use some workaround like making the MEP window small and moving it away from the icons that I frequently use before rendering. But it sure would be nice if the team can make it behave like other windows programs.

I agree and I'm pretty sure this 'rendering lock-out' is one of the many non-standard quirks of MEP that I've reported before. Perhaps you could send a formal report using the Technical Support form?

More generally, positioning and resizing of the MEP screen and its panes is something of a mystery to me. Although the F9 key will usually unscramble things in the current session, sometimes if MEP is then closed and re-opened the arrangement returns to its 'corrupted' state. I usually then have to resort to trial/error, successively trying the various videodeluxe.ini files I've backed up recently.
