Trying to record and have a message "The chosen folder is write-protec

"The chosen folder is write-protected. Cannot write data" is the message when trying to record. I record this way frequently and have never had this message. Do I need an update maybe?

For the program - no.

The most likely cause is an update you have already had - to Windows Defender or your Antivirus program - try disabling the Folder protection feature or add an exception for the program in the Folder protection feature.

If that does not work which folder is 'write protected', and is it inside your Documents folder?
