Trying to fade out an audio MP3 file, not working

jpetzing wrote on 7/27/2014, 7:57 PM

The PDF manual states that you can double click within an audio object in the timeline view to set an inflection point for the volume vs. time curve. However, no matter where I double click within the audio object, I just get a popup window called "Sound optimization." The popup window has tabs for Noise removal, Equalizer, Compressor and Stereo FX and controls for DeClipper, DeNoiser and DeHisser, but no inflection point is added to the volume curve and there's no way to cause a simple fade.

I finally figured out that I could get a simple fade by playing with the four predefined inflection points on the volume curve, but adding inflection points does not work.

Hi,

Go into Timeline mode. There you will see the 4 tracks with the mp3 on one of them. Click on the mp3, go to the end, and you will see some handles. The upper one is the fader, so grab it and drag it to the left to fade out. See the image below.

  1. Photostory 2016 deluxe - AUDIO WILL NOT FADE OUT.  In TIMELINE MODE there are no handles or predefined inflection points.  Double clicking anywhere on audio object brings up SOUND OPTIMIZATION menu.  HELP.   My previous version did have convenient handles to fade volume..

Hi

. . . . In TIMELINE MODE there are no handles or predefined inflection points.  . . .

The handles appear when you select, ie single click, the mp3 file object - fade in handle is at the start of the object, the fade out handle at the end as John CB has indicated.

If this is not happening then there may be a problem with the installation in which case we need more information - see this post - and screenshots will help.

Thank you so much for the comment.  When I click the mp3 file object it turns from green to blue.  However NO FADE IN OR FADE OUT HANDLES.  NOR CAN I ADJUST THE VOLUME   In the manual under "Manual Volume Decrease" I'm told to insert 2 automation points.  When I click it takes me to Sound Optimization.  Manual also says that "curve points can easily be moved by drag and drop..." which doesn't happen.

The handles are active on my photos themselves, but not on my audio.  (I'm using one of the Magix provided mp3's.)

Would have expected a very similar or same process for fading in and out that was integral to my earlier version of Photostory.

Are you using one of Photostory's movie templates or the slideshow wizard?

If so the provided mp3 may be locked and you would need to disconnect the movie from the template.

I appreciate your input John. I'm not using the movie template. I manually inserted the mp3 into my slideshow. Still no handles to fade audio in or out . The audio channel is activated, meaning it's blue (not green) with no handles to grasp. Might this be an installation problem? Seems like the handles should be there just like in my previous Photostory Deluxe version.
