Trouble Finding the Machine ID to re-Register Sound Forge 8 MP3 app

I have an old computer running Windows XP, had bought and installed, long ago, Sound Forge 8 (along with Acid Pro 6 (that was updated); and something else maybe CD Architect). Computer is not connected to the internet, so I followed the procedure to activate at another computer. Filled in the information on the form, but cannot complete because I need the Computer ID # (whatever that is). Searches of this site and others offer little help. I have tried the number from the XP partition that is on the About and Computer name, neither work.

Why such a number is needed by Magix escapes me, but, if needed, where do I find it.

It also escapes me why I need to re-register for the MP3 functionality in Sound Forge 8, or why it becomes deactivated. I did sign into Sony and I checked that all of my products are still registered with them and they then forwarded me to Magix for further downloads and/or registration. Why can't my registration be confirmed from my account with Sony? Why is Magix not easing this process of re-registering a 3rd party app through cross referencing of existing accounts on Sony. We should have an easier process because all of our info is already there on Sony's site.

I am converting wav files of my distributed music to MP3s for Radio, etc. This is for promotions purposes of distributed music which could mean paydays with streaming. So it is a bit of a hold up.

Thanks for your help.

I do not know for sure, but it may no longer be possible to activate any version of SF w/o an online connection. I suggest you put the PC online temporarily to activate SF-8. Sound Forge Audio Studio is relatively low cost if budget is a concern.

If you need to encode MP3s without SF, there are lots of MP3 encoders available. I like WinLAME RC3 which has some very useful options besides the usual sample rate, kbps settings, ect (including a 'high-pass filter' right in the UI) and many parameters can be written and modified using script presets. Naturally, WinLAME can also batch encode. It's fast.. and it's free

Very good answer. I thought along those lines of going back online. I just have to find the article that I used to turn off everything that I turned off. Turn those functions on again, and then from the article be able to turn them off again. Also, thanks for the tip on the encoders.
