You should start by watching this tutorial on getting started to make sure that you have everything.

Transitions are overlaps of clips and you can apply any of the preset ones under the fades tab.

Titles - just select an object and click on the T button for title.

Read the manual for more details. There are also tutorials way down under the tutorial tab of this forum showing how to do this. You can also do a search of this forum. I just replied to someone about how to get more than one title on an object.
