Could someone explain the procedure to transfer an ongoing project from my desktop PC to a laptop.  The Movie Editpro MX software to installed on both machines.   I wish to be able to continue work whilst I'm away and keep project on both machines..

My system is Windows 7 on both.

Thanks in anticipation

Roger

Roger,

Assuming you've a fairly recent version of MEP go to 'File' >> 'Backup copy' >> 'Copy project and media into folder...'. If you have a reasonably fast external hard drive you might try working from there on either computer. Just be sure you copy any new material into the same folder created by the backup procedure.before you import into MEP. Otherwise you will have the program on one computer not finding resources that are on the other -- or even there but in a different folder.

'Copy project and media...' will copy all the individual movies if you have them. If you only want a single movie there is a 'Copy movie and media...' option as well.

Regards,

Carl

Many thanks Carl

I will try it out tomorrow - when I feeling more refreshed!   I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi Carl

Not having much success I'm afraid.  My version of MEP MX was bought last year and is version 11.0.6.4.

Opened up project I am working on and carrried out your first instruction of 'File'>>'Backup copy' >>'Copy Project and Media to Folder'.  Fine. When I got to this stage there was a list of folders to save to, so I made a new one called 'Magix Backup'.  Having done this and saved to this folder I found I had 85 files and separate folder called 'originaldescription' which contained 26 items.

I then downloaded this 'Magix Backup' file to a memory stick.   What to do next?  Put memory stick in laptop and opened MEP.  Couldn't find any reference to 'Copy project and media...'Where am I going wrong?   Do I have to downlaod each individual file and item?   Sorry about my ignorance but if you can help further would be most grateful.

Not Carl, but hopefully, all you need to do is to copy the complete "Magix Backup" folder from  the memory stick to your laptop, open MEP and choose to open an existing project.  Tell MEP precisely where this "Backup" folder is (you need to specifically point to the mvp file) and MEP should open all the files for you.  In theory that's all you need to do but I've never tried this so don't know how it works in practice!

When/if you wish to transfer the project back to your desktop I fear you will have to go through this whole procedure again!

Roger,

I've never seen anything called 'originaldescription'. Are the 26 files items part of your project?

If the backup has been successful there is no special command to use it in your laptop; simply go to 'File' >> 'Open project' and navigate to your backup copy of the .MVP file as Jeff said. You will probably get a 'Can't find...' message at first because the project file contains a list of the locations of all the clips which, on your desktop PC, might have been within say C:\...\ My Documents\Backup Folder, but your memory stick is seen by your laptop as E:\ drive. You'll get the option to find the 'missing' file so you navigate to its location on the stick. You only have to d the once, not for every file in your project.

If you copy the backup folder from the stick to an identical location on your laptop the project may open immediately. I'd suggest doing this as file access time can be relatively slow from the stick.
