Too soft recording level

Hello

I am a 'veteran' user of MAGIX recording software (AudioLab10 and now AudioLab15).

All I ever do is to record vinyl to CD-R for my own use. During the past year or so, I haven't had a chance to record anything but did so over the past weekend. The result was very disappointing as the record level was much too soft.

Equipment used: Windows XP

Turntable: Garrard 301

Cables: Short and connectors very clean

Soundcard: Edirol USB Audio Interface UA-1EX

Amplifier: Any of a number of amplifiers (Sansui integrated, Kenwood KA-701 integrated and more)

I don't like to use headphones so I have two bookshelf speakers connected to the Sansui amp.

The Edirol has a volume control which I normally (when things still used to work correctly!) - adjust to around its middle range, or just below.

The Sansui amp's function selector now is set to aux/tape and I have a phono lead plugged into the Edirol's output rca jacks.

My turntable's armlead is plugged into the Edirol's input jacks.

The too soft recording level really has been giving me a very hard time. I have tried so many things and cannot solve this problem.

I removed AudioLab15 from my computer and re-installed it. I did the same with the soundcard's software all to no avail.

I have been thinking about Windows auto updates being responsible and many other things and hope the Magix family here has some possible cures. If I insert a disc (either a previously recorded disc or a 'commercial' disc) into my computers disc drives, the sound is perfectly normal and can be adjusted to any level I prefer.

Thank you for your kind attention to this problem.

Hi

I suspect that the low volume is because you have the USB converter.amp and turntable connected together incorrectly.

Looking at the specs for the UA-1X does not support the low signal level from the turntable cartridge nor provide RIAA equalisation.

The correct way of connecting these together is to plug the turntable into the correct input of an amplifier (or pre-amplifier), and then feed the signal from the pre-amp out (or tape out )  to the UA-1X.
