the file new.MMM seems to be corrupt

When beginning a new recording this message appears, "The chosen folder is write-protected. Cannot write data." I've recorded with this for years and have changed nothing.

@Sharon-Wagers Maybe your problem is caused by Windows controlled folder access feature.
