Text link selects whole text object, not individual text

I'm using Xara Designer Pro X 17 and working to create links between sections in my document for use in creating a pdf. The idea is to use individual words as links to headings. Unfortunately, when I use the text tool to select a word or couple words and use the link button and select a heading, it creates a link from any text in the entire text object to the selected heading. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Once you have selected the word(s), right click them and select Web Properties from the pop-up and set the link there.

Thank you, but it still doesn't seem to be working. When I right-click the words, web properties doesn't show up as an option. Nor does anything happen if I use the keyboard shortcut for Web Properties. Any idea why that might be?

Did you select the word(s) - Text tool, double click word(s) or drag highlight before right clicking ?
