Switching Website Designs in Xara Web Designer Premium v. 19

Anne-Cobham wrote on 5/26/2022, 6:28 PM

Hey there. I am running Windows 10 and Xara Web Designer Premium v. 19. I don't like the website design I chose a while back. Is there a way of switching designs without having to start my entire website from scratch? Also, I thought there was a way to fairly easily change the colour scheme, but it seems to have disappeared from my sidebar. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thank you in advance!

@Anne-Cobham

Hi

. . . . Is there a way of switching designs without having to start my entire website from scratch? . . . .

In theory this is possible by applying a different template to the site, however this can lead to misplacement and sizing issues of items on the pages.

To edit the existing template see Template Backgrounds and re-coloring backgrounds under Help in the program or manual if you have downloaded it.

. . . .  change the colour scheme, but it seems to have disappeared from my sidebar. . . . .

Do you mean the colour selector bar?

Hi John, thanks for replying. When I say "sidebar" I mean the tab at the right of my screen entitled "Local Designs Gallery" which when I open it, has folders entitled "First Look", "Components", "Websites", etc. To change the colour scheme on my current website, I would normally open the Websites folder and it would have all the different colour schemes available for my website template. But now when I open that folder it is empty. When I click "+ more online" it takes me to an Online Catalog page, which is blank, and then I get an error message. (I posted about this in a separate post, and someone replied saying it might be a Magix server issue. So I'm checking that out too).

@Anne-Cobham

Hi Ann

The empty Local Design gallery and Online Galleries would suggest the Update Service has expired?

It may also be connected to your issue with the gallery, though the gallery should still function if it was added before the Update Service expired.

Hi John, thanks. I thought the Update Service was renewed when I upgraded to v.19? It went through the process after the install. Is there anything further I ought to do?

EDIT: I clicked "Check for updates" under the Help dropdown tab at the top. It tells me "No updates were found" (see screenshot attached).

@Anne-Cobham

 I thought the Update Service was renewed when I upgraded to v.19?

Did you buy the Upgrade (in which case yes, the service should have been renewed) or were you simply offered the Upgrade without additional payment? If the latter, as @johnebaker suggests, it would seem that your original Update Service has expired at some date between the installation of the upgrade and now. What was the purchase date of the original version of the software?

If you did purchase the Upgrade I think you need to contact infoservice@magix.net and ask for their help in resolving this.

I purchased v.18 in April of last year. The v.19 upgrade was offered, without any request for additional purchase, and although it took a while to decide to install, it did finally install. Now I'm running v. 19. The "Update Service" seemed to install as well (i.e. it asked to install, I clicked Yes, and it went through an install process). At no time was I asked to purchase anything.

@Anne-Cobham

Thanks for the additional information.

As both John and I suggested to you, therefore, it seems your Update Service has indeed expired in April this year. The install of the "Update Service" at the time of version 19 installation would have been, simply, the latest version of that specific software; it would not indicate the actual period of the service was "starting again", i.e., you were now beginning again with the twelve months of free updates.

To regain full access to the features you are asking about does mean you need to purchase a further twelve months of the Update Service, which will run for that length of time from the exact date on which you choose to make this additional purchase, i.e., not from April 2022.

Hey there. I logged into the Magix Service Centre and checked - I purchased Web Designer Premium on July 21, 2021. So shouldn't my Update Service still be active? I have looked all over and can't see anywhere to actually purchase a new Update Service. When I enter my serial number to check what downloads are available to me, nothing comes up.

emmrecs wrote on 5/29/2022, 9:07 AM

@Anne-Cobham

Purchase on July 21, 2021 means the Update Service should be active until July 20, 2022.

I think you need to contact infoservice@magix.net and ask for their help with this.

Hi there. I did contact Magix and it turns out it was my antivirus program. All I had to do was temporarily disable my Norton antivirus and firewall. My access to the Online Content Catalog is now restored! Thank you everyone!

@Anne-Cobham

I'm delighted to hear that everything is resolved for you, thanks for the feedback.

Speaking entirely personally I would not touch Norton software with a bargepole! Many years ago I used it and twice, in attempting to update itself, it wrote off my Registry, necessitating a full reinstall of Windows each time!

@Anne-Cobham

Hi

Also pleased to hear the issue is resolved.

Personally I would agree with @emmrecs comment regarding Norton AV, and add that the same sentiment applies to McAfee as well.
