First check if you have the latest build of SFAS-14, (Help> Check of updates).
Otherwise, reset SF and clear the cache. The command is in the 'File' menu. Everything will be set back to the default state, including most of your custom settings.

btw, welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community @Joe-Dahl.

Thank you for the advice. I tried your suggestion and I’m still unable to open MP3 files. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, but that didn’t work either.

any other suggestions?

Hi @Joe-Dahl, the MP3 issue was relatively common and a reset usually fixed it (search this forum).
I would recommend uninstall and reinstall again.. but uninstall using a third-party uninstaller like 'Revo Uninstall' that can remove left-over registry entries and other pertinent data the default uninstall leaves behind, which is usually the root cause of issues which can reoccur when an application is reinstalled.
Revo Uninstall is highly regarded and has a pro, and a free version which is adequate in most cases. Use the advanced scan mode but try not to delete shared data if another version of Magix Sound Forge is installed.
