Sounds coming from nowhere...

I am using 2015 premium...

I have a project that is about 15 minutes long right now.  It has a lot of video and audio objects and most of it is fine.  However I noticed after moving some of it around there are sounds coming from places on the timeline that I can't see any object.

Has anyone else seen this?  Another thing I noticed that may help is some of the sounds are the same sounds from a video object that is previously on the timeline and somehow it is making the sounds again.  If I delete it from earlier on the timeline the sounds also go away in the place where the problem is.

But some sounds I can't even find where they are coming from...is there some setting for hiding certain objects?  Have I gotten my project into a bad state by moving things around?

Thanks

Steve

Hi

I assume you mean Movie Edit Pro 2015 Premium  ( MEP 2015 ) - usually this is caused by duplicated / stray objects on lower tracks or after the 'apparent' end of the video on the timeline.

Also depending on your 'Insert object' settings, see image below, dragging an object from the media pool to the timeline can split existing timeline objects.

. . . . some sounds I can't even find where they are coming from . . . .

Check lower tracks and the full length of the timeline for stray objects - you may need to zoom in to see them if they are small.

John,

Thanks for your input.  It was helpful.  I couldn't locate the objects through the interface even with zooming...but I did notice that Ctrl+A (select all) then delete got rid of them, but selecting everything I could see through the GUI  with the mouse did not, so maybe they are really hidden somewhere.

So I selected everything with the mouse through the GUI and copied it to the clipboard.  Then I did Ctrl+A then delete to get rid of everything including phantoms.  Then I pasted what I had selected with the mouse.  The result was that just the phantoms were deleted.  This mostly fixed the problem.

I am pretty new to Magix and have made mostly small projects and never had an issue.  Now with this large project I am beginning to get frustrated with these strange things.  I think you are probably right that something to do with inserting objects might be causing this...but what is the safest way to not affect the existing objects?  I have been dragging objects from Microsoft Windows Explorer windows directly into the timeline away from other objects.  Is there a better and safer way?

Finally another strange thing I am seeing.  Sometimes a video phantom will appear when I preview part of my movie.  Here's a simplified description.  Say I have clip A, B, and C.  If I preview just clip B and C which include a fade effect then  it looks correct, but if I preview clip A, B, and C, then I see clip A overtop of clip C being faded in over top of the correct fade effect.  It's just all very frustrating.  I can't figure out what exactly is happening and when I export the movie I see things I don't see in the preview or I don't see things that I was seeing in the preview...It takes way too much time to export every time to test out if it's working or not.  Why is the integrity of my preview messed up?

Hi

Please you have sorted out the 'rogue' objects, re the preview issue - I have not come cross this odd behaviour (yet!)

However I would suggest you try resetting the program to its default settings - File, Settings, Reset . . . . .to default.

Note this will lose any customisation you have set eg folder paths etc.
