Soundpools NOT saving in Magix Music Maker 2014

blaklock wrote on 5/18/2014, 9:34 PM

I recently purchased MMM 2014 which came with soundpools 17, 18, & 20...

When I first started using the application, the soundpool locations where saved in the app and everything worked fine...

A few days ago, I purchased some additional soundpool dvd's, and installed them to the hard drive like I did the ones mentioned above, and everything seemed to work just fine...

When I went to resume work on a composition the next day, none of the soundpools appeared in the list (except for the free trial soundpools)...

I have added all the soundpools multiple times with the same results, I have uninstalled and re-installed the application as well multiple times with the same results...

Nothing has changed on the system, no new software has been installed other than the new soundpools..

For some reason, the program just does not seem to want to save any of the installed soundpools in the list...

Any ideas or suggestions on how to resolve this?   It is really frustrating having to re-add the soundpools everytime I load the program....

I am running windows 8.1

The App is Magix Music Maker 2014 (ver. 20.0.4.49)

Now, I'm really trying to help.....so.....if you keep doing te same things over and over and it doesn't resolve issue....Stop doing them, you'll only get frustraated.  You've got to do something new and different.  How much of all this is on DVD and how much has just been downloaded ?  Once all of this is fixed, and it will be, you need to make copies of your soundpools on a USB memory doohickey.   You neeed to put them in a separate folder.  You need to make sure they all work....every sample in every pool..  This will take a little time but  you will get to hear some really cool sounds that might get your creative juices flowing and you will know they work.  Get back to me

All of the soundpools (excluding DVD 18 and the bonus loops) are all physically on DVDs purchased by a friend for me as a gift, but I have copied all the soundpool folders onto the hard drive, yes, I know which folder they go to, Yes, they are set up correctly...  They all work just fine when I load them up into the program...  I have already made a back up of the complete soundpool folder so that I do not have to keep copying them off the DVD whenever I need to reinstall them...

My only problem as previously mentioned is that the program is not saving the soundpool listing... each time I load the program, the soundpool list is empty except for the trial pools, and I need to keep reloading them into the program...

Sorry, I am not totally new to this, I have used earlier versions of the program, I just can't figure out why the soundpools aren't being saved in the program after they are added :)

Hi,

I don't know exactly what you are doing, so here are some things to watch out for.

First, make sure that your soundpools are all copied under one main folder located on a hard disk that will not have its drive letter changed during booting up. I keep all of mine in subfolders under:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Soundpools

as shown below.

This way you only have to give the above location to MMM and it will find all of the soundpools.

Go to File, Settings, Program settings and make sure that you have the settings similar to the 2 screens below:

On the main screen of MMM in the Media Pool at the bottom of the screen under Soundpools, click on the "+ Add" above Styles and add in the main path to your soundpools. MMM should find everything and remember it.

Note that there is no real installation process for soundpools. They are simply copied (usually by you) to the hard disk location that you choose. Thus MMM does not save your soundpools, it saves the location of your soundpools and if that location is changed, then MMM will not be able to find it.

Lastly, there is a lot more information in this Forum if you search through the Q&A and Discussions for MusicMaker. Click here for one that you should review.

I have similr issue. All my soundpools are stored on the hard drive, at the location where MMM 2014 is expecting to have the soundpools. When I start my MMM 2014 only some of the styles are loaded. So I need, after each start of MMM 2014, to add all my soundpools again, and this is very frustrating. Is there fix for it?

My version of software is: MAGIX Music Maker 2014 20.0.5.56 (UDTP)

Hi, I got the same problem since I have swithed to MMM 2014 then 2015

And Finally just find a solution today and I'm also under Windows 8.1

I have created a tutorial and posted it today, time to be reviwed, it must be available soon under the tutorials part of this site...

This is a copy of how i did to fix this bug :

Soundpools detected but not saved correctly MMM2014 - MMM2015 Bug Solution

The most common issue (for 2015 and 2014 as well) is the sounpools that are not saved correctly. after adding them, on restart just a few of them shows up in the list.

I found a solution for this

  •      Locate the file named SoundPoolDB.dat (location depends of your windows version just do a search using the explorer search function).
  •      Open the file using Wordpad (or any other text editor) and check the last Soundpool listed to confirm that it matched with your last Soundpool in the list (for example the last Soundpool available in my Styles list was blues and the last entry in the .dat file was [D:\MAGIX\Common\Soundpools\Blues\Organ\|BPM=120.00|Scale=C,d,e,F,G,a,|source=0] (for info my configuration is system windows and application on C:\ drive, Plugins, Soundpools and work folders on D:\ drive)
  •     Save the content of the .dat file under another name for example SoundPoolDB 1.dat then delete the original file. Relocate all the Soundpools available into your Styles list (and .dat file) into a temporary folder. The aim is to be able to scan the next missing Soundpools.
  •      Run Music Maker again, the software will scan the Soundpool folder and create a new SoundPoolDB.dat with the new detected Soundpools. Then close and re-open the software again to confirm that you get back the new Soundpools.
  •     If all your missing Soundpools are listed you can go to the Final Step. If not, do again as first step, do a renamed copy of the file as for example SounPoolDB 2.dat, delete the original file, move all the Soundpools from the list to the temporary folder, restart the software to re-scan the other missing Soundpools.... as explained before.
  •      Final Step, open the file SounPoolDB.dat with Wordpad and delete all the content, then open your backup SoundPoolDB 1.dat copy all the content and paste it to SoundPollDB.dat, do the same with SoundPoolDB 2.dat copy the content and paste it into SoundPoolDB.dat (following the content of the backup 1)... do the same for the other backups if you have more (I personally got all my Soundpools available with only 2 backup DB1 and DB2)
  •     Save the file SoundPoolDB.dat and change the file properties to read-only this is very important as the software will normally try to overwrite the file on startup (then recreate the partial and defective one).
  •    Copy all the Soundpools from the temporary folder back to your original Soundpool folder.
  •    Restart Music Maker to get your full collection of Soundpools available in your Styles list.

Hope it can solve your problem, here i have restarted Music Maker many times and always got my full SoundPools List....Finally !

Good Luck
