Sound won't play when using Audio Clean Lab, but save file & it plays

Hearne wrote on 12/20/2020, 12:50 PM

The sound within Audio Cleaning Lab just quit yesterday. If I import a file and make a few selections, then save it and open it in SoundForge14, it plays -- but then it isn't quite right and have to go back to Audio Cleaning Lab to start over. There is nothing wrong with the sound on my computer as it plays as it always did. PLEASE help as I'm making a Christmas Video for our family as we will have to ZOOM our get together. I went to Magix and deactivated it, then installed it. Nothing changed -- no sound in Audio Cleaning Lab. Then I uninstalled it and used my upgrade DVD backup from 2018 -- still no sound. I've searched the Internet and found no reports of this problem, so please, please send me some help or a patch! Thanks! A million thanks for rescuing our 2020 Covid-19 Christmas Video.

@Hearne

Have you checked Windows Sound settings to see if you have Stereo mix active?

I don't have this program but a lot of programs need it active to work properly and the default setting in Windows for stereo mix is 'off'.

I can't say whether this is the problem of not but often is in such programs.

Thanks! That is on and I tried it again but still no sound in the Audio Cleaning Lab. It worked beautifully until mid-day yesterday, so that is very perplexing. Nothing changed on my computer. Again, thanks for the suggestion. I know it can be fixed as Magix is a great company.

@Hearne

Hi Hearne.

Sorry to hear the problem is not fixed for you.

To get in contact with Magix staff you need to email them at infoservice@magix.net as there are only other Magix users here and no Magix staff.

As I say I do not have this program so can't really comment as I can't walk you through any other possible solutions but another possible cause is that the ASIO driver has had it's settings changed somehow but I have no idea how to get to the settings in Audio Cleaning Lab unless it is showing on the Windows task bar when the program is open.

It would look similar to this.

But I have custom settings set for my applications so may look different to what you would see if it comes up in the task bar. Setting it up if not working can be tricky and may not be your problem. If I had your program I would be more happy to show you my settings to copy but as I don't and don't want to make matters worse for you I suggest you get in contact with the Magix staff.

Sorry.

Ray.

Hi

. . . .  If I import a file . . . .

Is this an audio or video file and which format and what is the source?

. . . .  but then it isn't quite right . . . .

What is wrong with it?

Did you have any Windows updates pending or install immediately after the next reboot, when Video Sound Cleaning Lab stopped working?

. . . . I'm making a Christmas Video for our family as we will have to ZOOM our get together. . . . .

Does the video include one or more, or going to include, Zoom recordings,? If so do be aware there are issues with Zoom recordings and video editors - see this topic from here onwards.

Thanks! I import either .wav or .mp3 files to the Audio Cleaning Lab. My son is a ZOOM expert from work, so I will forward your link to him -- thanks for the heads up as it could help with his work also!

Nothing changed in my computer. I used it often last week and it worked beautifully. Then the computer was turned off as always --no updates--while I did something else. In a couple of hours, the computer was turned back on and no sound on Audio Cleaning Lab. I went ahead and used it as many of the songs used certain presets, then saved it as usual. SoundForge 14 accepted the files, but sometimes the sound wasn't that was expected and then going back to fix it was TIME CONSUMING as you had to try to fix something, save it, import it to SOUNDforge 14, etc.

It is something internal with Audio Cleaning Lab. Reinstalling didn't fix it either. Any help is greatly appreciated as something will fix it my optimistic side tells me. Thanks so much for responding.

Hi

. . . . Then the computer was turned off as always --no updates--while I did something else. In a couple of hours . . .

Was this a full shutdown or a Hibernate/Sleep shutdown, ie close the lid if a laptop or press the Power button once for a PC - if the latter then it is likely that the audio card did not power up again.

Try doing a restart of the computer - Windows button, Power icon, Restart to force a driver reload. A shutdown/power will not do this.

I shut it down completely as other things needed my attention. The computer behaved as it always does, but the sound on the Audio Cleaning Lab no longer works. I sent an email as johnebaker suggested bit have not yet received a reply. It would be odd if no one else had ever experienced this problem, don't you think?

Thanks for your concern and the suggestions. I appreciate your taking the time to think about this problem and will attempt to restart the computer as you suggested which is my normal method except I power it off completely. When I finish reading my email, I'll do the Windows button, Power icon, Restart. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for trying to help! I reinstalled WINDOWS but kept my DATA. After reinstalling Audio Cleaning Lab, the sound works!!! But when I closed the program, an error message popped up -- ...memory could not be read. I screen printed it but could not figure out how to attach it. Does anyone have any insight as to how to overcome this problem? Thanks so much!

I had a similar problem. Sound worked fine elsewhere, but not for ACL. I have ACL 16. Found out my sound was turned off in the mixer for ACL. Right click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Open Volume Mixer". My mute button was selected for ACL. It looks like you have cleared the problem, but I am going to have to remember this one.

Thanks! I will remember that as reinstalling Windows and all the programs was a lot of work!
