Sound issue when importing mp4

Christelle wrote on 11/11/2022, 3:59 AM

Using Video Deluxe Premium on a Windows11 PC, I am facing issues with the sound on older mp4 files. the sound is "metallic", or "cracking" (not sure how to describe it), but anyway, unusable. Using other softwares on the same machine, I am not facing the same issue.

@Christelle

Hi, and welcome to the user to user forums.

I would describe the audio sound as crackles, and is a sign of the audio buffers needing to load more data ahead of playing the visual content to keep it in sync with the image frames or to have enough ram space cleared to load a higher quality audio sample into the buffer with no audio quality loss. In the program settings found on the top toolbar of the program under File / Settings / Program. The first tab, playback will need some adjustments. Try adding addition samples first rather than adding buffers. Adding buffers first may slow down the programs response to input commands such as playback and stop. Adding more to the samples section first helps to clean up crackles normally produced by helping to recreate the waveforms more accurately (higher quality). You may have to go as high or higher than four times the amount used as the preset amount shown when you open that section.

Don't go beyond what you need as adding additional samples can result in other performance hits in other areas. Try just doubling the amount to begin with. Using the buttons to the sides is the easiest way to do that.

If by 'other softwares' you meant playback software such as VLC player of Windows Film and TV, that is entirely a different and less demanding job than video editing and needs nowhere near the same amount of computer reserved resources.

Hi

In addition to @CubeAce comment, more information on the mp4 files that cause the 'crackle' may help.

Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips causing the issue and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

Your computer specification including Windows version and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s)you are working with if this is a laptop.

I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

Thanks @CubeAce. Unfortunately, that did not help...

Not sure if it is important or not, but by other softwares, I also meant Clipchamp, which is probably closer to Magix

Images/s mini                            : 24,357 Im/s

The video is variable framerate which is known to cause issues in video editors with audio.

Try converting the video to Constant  framerate using a converter such as Handbrake or AviDemux - see this tutorial by @AAProds for AviDemux .

Just gave it a try on my older machine (which happens to have the 2019 update of Magix Video Deluxe Premium)

Intel Core i5-7300HQ

CPU@2.5GHz

RAM 16Go

Windows 10 Family 21H2 (x64)

and no crackle with the very same video

Hi.

That's interesting.

Another Ryzen based system having problems an Intel one doesn't seem to be exhibiting.

Those CPUs manage memory differently and I feel this is definitely a memory management problem. You should raise a ticket with Magix, but first although I said initially not to increase the buffer size, please try to max the buffer out and if necessary the sampling as well and try again. The program will not respond well (It may take a few or more seconds to play after pressing play) but the audio may improve. If it does, I personally feel it is definitely memory allocation differences. If it doesn't work then I'm stumped at this point to explain why.

Hi

. . . . Do you think upgrading to the latest VDL would help? . . . .

I would agree with @CubeAce coment: Another Ryzen based system having problems an Intel one doesn't seem to be exhibiting and would suggest you wait until Magix get back to you.

What is the graphics card make/model in the Ryzen PC it is missing from your Signature ?

Hi.

I finally looked up Clipchamp which works though a web browser and the processing is done in the cloud on their servers and not your computer so your computer specs wouldn't make any difference. Plus it is a really basic editor limited to HD or lower resolutions. I am glad you have solved your current problem though.
