I'd like to post a complaint about Sound Forge Pro crash recovery process.
After a system or SoundForge crash, SF tries to recover the files in the TEMP folder when you run it. The recovery process is successful only if SF manages to read from the .tmp file. This is where the problem happens. If SF can't open the file, it deletes the temp file without notice, even it's possible to recover it.
In a recent crash, I copied all the files in TEMP folder to a safe location before running SF again. After running SF, it failed to recover saying "file is damaged" and deleted it. I opened the copy_of_tmp_file as RAW, and adjusted the parameters to match the PCM file format, and it managed to open / recover the file that was "damaged". It appears the only damaged part was the header of the WAV file. The PCM data was healthy.
You should have seen the happy face of the voice over guy when I recovered that hours of work.
I think SF coders should redesign and improve the recovery process and at least offer an option to open the file in RAW format. I'm sure many SF users are not aware of that option.
Hope this info helps people who experience crashes.
