Sound Forge for editing talk radio

ruth-n wrote on 4/17/2019, 6:44 PM

I have been using Audacity to edit recordings of conversations and interviews -- not music -- for broadcast over community radio and onto podcasts. With all the heavy editing I do, Audacity has a tendency to become corrupted and this has become intolerable. So, I'm looking for audio editing software that can withstand lots of cuts, pastes, and reconfiguring. Once in a while, I might add music. Can anyone tell me whether Sound Forge for PC (mine is a new Lenovo laptop with Windows 10) would be a good choice? Or is there something better out there? Many thanks in advance. -- Ruth

Welcome to the Sound Forge forum. SF is very good for editing spoken word content and there are a few techniques that can be used, such as inserting 'events'. It also offers surgical editing down to the sample level and many restoration tools. For instance Sound Forge Pro includes the noise reduction NR 2.0 suite as well as iZotope's RX Elements. (in addition to lots or other audio processors. SF Pro also has the latest broadcast loudness meters and can render a statistics report very fast.. a one minute file in about 3 seconds) which includes the all important broadcast LUFS adaptive and dBTP (true peak) factors.

Sound Forge Pro was the best and became the industry standard when it first came to the market around 26 years ago .... but today? At least to me, it is still the best 😉
