Sound Forge Audio Studio will NOT open my mp3 file

Attn: Support

Please help me.

I purchased your SOUND FORGE Audio Studio 14 on September 2, 2020 and am having a problem importing a mp3 file. I get the following error:

Warning: An Error occurred during the current operation.

The file format is an unsupported format.

My other sound programs do NOT have a problem importing this mp3 file.

The file was created by my "DIGITNOW Bluetooth Record Player with Stereo Speakers, Turntable for Vinyl to MP3 with Cassette Play, AM/FM Radio, Remote Control, USB/SD Encoding, 3.5mm Music Output Jack"

This device was purchased from Amazon.com at the following URL:

Thank you,

Richard Jufer

Welcome to the Magix Sound Forge user community @Richard-Jufer, this a user-to-user forum. Moderators are not Magix employees either and do not have access to other users information, serial numbers and such.

Unfortunately, opening and encoding MP3s in SF is not uncommon. Peruse the posts below for possible remedies.
https://www.magix.info/us/support/search/?searchphrase=MP3.

If none are successful, file a Magix Tech Support request;
(Sorry, this is a little complicated)

1. Select the "SUPPORT" at the top of the page
2, Click the "Ask Support" box on bottom right
3. Under "I NEED HELP WITH" >> choose "Music" or other generalized category, and ignore the "Perhaps this will help you" option
4. Further down on the page choose your application (again): (SOUND FORGE Pro or Audio Studio)
5. At the bottom-right, click the blue button "SEARCH FOR OTHER SOLUTIONS"
6. Enter a keyword, such as 'MP3' and click the "FIND A SOLUTION" button...
7. If not solutions are useful, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select "SEND A SUPPORT REQUEST" and log in to your account again if necessary
8. If so desired, you may change the subject text which was the previously entered keyword
9. "Describe your issue with as detailed as possible" in the text box.
10, Select "CONTINUE" and enter the pertinent information
11. Click the blue "SUBMIT SUPPORT REQUEST" button at bottom of page...

You should receive an email verifying your Magix support request.

@Singing-Phillip

Have you followed the suggestions which @rraud made in his reply directly above yours? If so, with what result?

Assuming that the proposed solutions did not work have you then followed his guidance and created a Support Ticket?

These are user to user forums and no one here can offer any other guidance than what Rick has posted.

Hi @Singing-Phillip, first confirm you have the latest build installed (Help> Check for updates). Otherwise try resetting Sound Forge and clearing to cache which has been known to resolve the semi-common MP3 issue. (File> Reset all preferences and cached data)

You could have started a new topic since this thread is relatively old. Next time, include more info as well. Read the 'Sticky' at the head for the main Sound Forge forum page. Hopefully an update or reset will resolve your MP3 issue..

Hey @rraud :) Ok! I just tried it.... Still not recognizing mp3's. Hmm....😕 I've uninstalled the program and reinstalled it.... MP3 is checked in File Types preferences..... This didn't happen until I switched to a new laptop. Could that me something to do with it? ( I appreciate your help) :)

@Singing-Phillip, what version of Sound Forge do you have?
Did you reboot the PC after the reset?
Is the PC connected to the internet? (it does not have to be permanently but needs to confirm codec licenses occasionally.. MP3 being one of them)
Also check if the MP3 codec file exists in the main SOUND FORGE folder in Program files, look for the FileIO Plug-Ins folders for the mp3plug2 > mp3plug2.dll.

If all else fails, I would recommend uninstall and reinstall again.. but uninstall using a third-party uninstaller like 'Revo Uninstall' that can remove left-over registry entries and other pertinent data the default uninstall leaves behind, which is usually the root cause of issues which can reoccur.
Revo Uninstall is highly regarded and has a pro, and a free version which is adequate in most cases. Use the advanced scan mode but try not to delete shared data if another version of Magix Sound Forge is installed on the PC.

Hey @rraud I have Sony Sound Forge Pro 15 (x64).... Laptop is connected to Wifi/Internet! Gonna check the codec file.... Gimme a bit! :)

Singing-Phillip wrote on 7/29/2022, 3:43 PM

I'm in the Sony Sound Forge Folder... in program files... I see 2 items in the FileIO Plug-Ins Folder.... mp3plug2 (with a ? mark on it) and mp3plug2.dll

rraud wrote on 7/29/2022, 4:21 PM

'mp3plug2 (with a ? mark on it)' is a help file. mp3plug2.dll is the codec file. Since that is where it should be and assuming you have the latest build (161), I would uninstall with Revo and re-install.

Singing-Phillip wrote on 7/29/2022, 4:28 PM

It is 161... I'll try the uninstall.... Thanks so much for your help! @rraud I'll be right back! :D

Singing-Phillip wrote on 7/29/2022, 4:51 PM

Hey @rraud Just did the Revo and re-install! Still not recognizing! :(

Will all overlook settings from time to time.
