Sound Forge 17?

Bobby-Clements wrote on 5/14/2023, 10:39 PM

In July 17, 2017 I bought Sound Forge Pro 10 (SFP10) for $311.99 to use with my Windows XP to copy my personal Gospel records and cassettes. I then wanted more and started collecting over 200 more Gospel records and cassettes from Thrift Stores, Estate Sales, Yard Sales & Internet to copy to CDs just for me at my house. Then I downloaded (SFP10) to my new Windows 10 computer because now all Win XP are ended. It was difficult to accomplish a usable CD because it would always ruin my CD then say:

"A write error occured" or "Make sure your media is approved for this drive" or "The command failed due to a lOCTL error" or "Your interface or drive may be configured incorrectly" or "This disk is not of a media that is supported by this drive" or "An illegal request was received" or "This disk cannot be formatted. It is an incompatible format." or "Invalid address for write found" or "The disk may be dirty or corrupted" or "The drive has received an illegal command" or "A medium error occurred" --- (those commands wasted hundreds of my new CDs, time and money)

Then on top of all that, the (SFP10) on my Windows 10 started acting up and erased all the Track names and tracks to make it only one track for the whole record every time I click to save them. Then I tried the Sound Forge Pro 17 (SFP17) for trial to see if it did any better so I would be encouraged to buy it. NOPE, it erases my stereo recordings and saves them all into mono when I click on save.

I have spent many, many hours and days with working at these programs to get all my records and cassettes recorded to CDs. I have ruined over 200 CD just to get 50 CD done good enough with text and tracks. I still have over 150 more to do.

END, there is no use. The new program is doing me the same way -----> I give up and should donate all my records to the Thrift store. Why should I continue?

@Bobby-Clements Sound Forge doesn't delete stereo channels or track metadata by itself. This sounds more like you selected export settings in mono and without metadata.

Do you use an external CD burner or is it an internal one included in your new computer?

As @SP. stated, "Sound Forge doesn't delete stereo channels or track metadata by itself".

You may be using "Save as" and have the default 'Save' parameters set to single-channel 'Mono'. Either way, 'Save or Save as', the "Save metadata with file" option must be check-marked to save the markers/regions/tracks and text names (metadata).

I have inadvertently saved files as mono and removed metadata more than a few times in my tenure. I would suggest changing the default save parameters, so you do not forget to confirm the save parameters.

I have run SFP-10 on a Win-10 many times w/o problems (aside from the reoccurring 'Elevated Privilege' issue which is common to the SFP-10/ Win-10 combo, which prevents SFP-10 from launching.

btw, welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community @Bobby-Clements.

rraud, to make sure the "Save metadata with file" was always clicked was the answer to one of my problems but no matter if I export a song or not, they always are saved in mono. I cannot find the option of stereo and mono settings anywhere in SFP17.

For example, I created a folder called "Testing" and using SFP-17, I opened stereo songs in other files of mine to save them in "Testing". They were all in stereo but were saved as mono into the "Testing " folder even when the "Save metadata with file" was checked also.

rraud, thanks again, my problem of "mono" and "stereo" settings were found & corrected in the "Template" which is shown in the photo you posted. Now all is good and I'm ready to get back to copying records.

I am curious: ------- Does MAGIC prefer that I copy all the songs I get from my records while I am still connected to the Internet or do they care if my Internet is connected while I copy them?

It should not matter whether your connected or not.. unless of course you are recording 'what-you-hear' from an online stream.

What format are you rendering? Some formats (like Apple's PCM AIFF) do not support metadata. Always edit and save files in the PCM <.wav> format. End user MP3, AAC or Flac files can be encoded from the PCM master..
btw, there is an option in the "Options> Preferences> General" menu to "Warn if metadata cannot be saved in the file" .

I only use <.wav> format because they are only used in my house and car CD players. I only copy records I own and can hold in my hand. I was just curious if they need to check-up on what records I am copying. But just as well, if I ever did illegal copying, my name would be engraved as the Engineer which should make only me be responsible for any wrong I do with my copy.

What about this ---- SFP-10 was so strict that if I didn't post a copyright year in the Summary, it would ruin my CD. This is the problem: Many churches and single ministries made their own records without having them copyrighted. Therefore, they didn't even post the year their record was released.

What should I post for their copyright in those situations when they did not have one?

Sound Forge Pro 10 was so strict that if I didn't post a copyright year in the Summary, it would ruin my CD.

I have burned many CDs in my tenure but I have never encountered that issue... but I always used CD Architect, which was included with SFP-10. Are you burning disc-at-once (DAO) Redbook compliant? (recommended). The Track-at-once mode does not support CD text and are generally not reliable.

Bobby-Clements wrote on 5/17/2023, 2:29 PM

Thanks rraud, the CD-A did come with my SFP-10 but I couldn't get it to perform like SFP-10 in Red book issues, so I only used the SFP-10. Yes I only burn them at (DAO) and I always keep the Red Book checked in the "Options / Preferences" file.

Anyway, determined to find some answers, I took notes of all my odd experiences and here are only a few of them relating to that issue:

For one record, SFP-10 said, "The command failed due to a IOCTL error." --------- After I corrected the copyright year (from Internet research), I successfully burned that record to a CD.

To a different record, SFP-10 said, "A write error occurred. Make sure your media is approved for this drive." -------------- After I added a simi-colon in the copyright area, I successfully burned that record to a CD.

To a different record, SFP-10 said, "Invalid address for write found." -------- After I added space between tracks and adjusted the regions to each side of the adjusted tracks, I successfully burned that record to a CD.

To a different record, SFP-10 said, "The command failed due to a IOCTL error. Your interface or drive may be configured incorrectly. This disk is not of a media that is supported by this drive. An illegal request was received. This disk cannot be formatted. It is an incompatible format." -------- After I added a song back to the record that I deleted (by choice), I successfully burned that record to a CD.

To a different record, SFP-10 said, "A write error occurred. Make sure your media is approved for this drive. An illegal request was received. Invalid address for write found. The disk may be dirty or corrupt. The drive has received an illegal command." ------- After I added the word "copyright" before the year it burned to a CD ---------- To another with same error, after I updated the copyright and corrected misspelled word in it's song name, it burned to a CD.
