Sound Forge 12 Pro Suite

ShawnMH wrote on 12/8/2018, 12:52 PM

Is there any way to be able to use the VSTs included in the Suite - with other DAWs or hosts that are NOT a Magix program (Cubase, Studio One, Reaper, Reason, Cakewalk, Akai MPC, etc)?

I know where the VSTs are located, and can get the folder to be scanned by all hosts. The plugins DO appear (GUI), and pass audio through, but do NOT have any other effect (FX) besides a very slight change from the bypassed tone.

These are the VSTs I am referring to:

Vintage Effects Suite (ECOX, FILTOX, CORVEX)

VariVerb II

Vandal

Analogue Modelling Suite (AM|MUNITION, AM|PULSE, AM|TRACK, AM|PHIBIA)

It seems as if these are authorization locked to the Magix programs only. I have tried many ways to make them work, and this is the only explanation I can think of? I bought this suite because of the plugins included, and plans for use in ALL of my VST hosts, not just the Magix hosts (Acid Pro 8 and SF Pro 12).

So, again, is there some special trick to doing that? Or are these VST plugins on permanent lockdown by my Magix programs?

Hi again.

First, thank you for creating this new thread.

Second, I suspect your supposition about the Magix-supplied VSTs being locked to Magix programs is absolutely correct. I do not own/run Acid but I do have MusicMaker, along with DAWs from Adobe (Audition) and Reaper. In each case, the plug-ins that are part of each host program do not appear as available and usable by either of the other two.

I would be delighted to be proved wrong, however!

If this is indeed the case, that would be a shame.

Seeing as Magix sells these plugins separately in their shop, it is easy to believe that they would be usable in any host/DAW from the suite version too.

It is not mentioned anywhere, or it is not very visibly noted (if it is), that this would be the case.

I bought the Sound Forge 12 Pro Suite so I could have the updated version of Sound Forge (from 10) AND be able to use the extra included plugins - in everything else that I own.

Vandal (full version) was one of the main plugins that I wanted. Imagine only being able to use that in Sound Forge, if that was the only Magix product you owned. VariVerb is another, I generally don't just use reverb only in an audio editor.

I do hope that this is an oversight of some sort, and that Magix will allow use of these extra plugins in other hosts - that aren't their own.

Hi,

The bad news is that no the included plugins cannot be used in another vendor's software, like your other Daws, etc.

The good news is that if you contact Magix customer service with the details you outlined in your post, Magix will sell you a license for the plugins you want to use in other programs at a very reasonable discount. The one situation I saw in a post was a received email from Magix another user posted that offered a license to use the full version of Independence Sampler (with the full 70GB library that was included in Samplitude ProX3 Suite) unlocked for $65. Considering that VSTi when bought as a standalone costs well over $300, that is a pretty good deal. I've been considering doing exactly this with Variverb II. I think it would be well worth it for a Reverb as good as this, or indeed, the Independence Sampler as well.

Merry Christmas,

Will

Hello! I recently bought Sound Forge Pro 12 Suite as well and asked Magix support about this. Here is their reply: "As for the plugins that came with SF...some of the plugins, like the iZotope plugins, should work with other DAW's...but the Magix ones are 'hard-bundled' with the Sound Forge program and can't be shared."

Thanks for the answers guys, and confirming what I thought.

Magix? What a joke it is that I can't use these VST plugins in other DAWs!

I still have not seen any place - on any website that says you can't do this. There is absolutely no upfront warning to the buyer. I am sure the Acid 8 Suite is doing the same thing.

You guys sell the VSTs in your online store as separate programs - and that is all that they are, - separate programs - no matter how they are bundled (suite).

I don't know about Variverb and the other 'Magix' plugs, but iZotope's Ozone and RX Elements are available in SCS versions of SF and VP as long as their 'VST search' folder is selected. I have not tried them other DAWs and such.

I'm not sure how the stand-alone plugins are, but the DAW plugins are locked to the single DAW only, as far as I can tell. You can't use the stand-alone plugs on anything other than Magix products, and it's been that way for quite a while. It provided Samplitude plain version users an opportunity to add suite products a la carte back when the suite bundle cost 400-500$$ more.
