It will be the FBI (sees Real America's Voice in the screenshot).

dmstar1956 wrote on 8/11/2022, 12:03 PM

Also happens on playback of projects, too. Hopefully, the FBI won't figure out I'm using Music Maker to send coded messages to others. I don't want to blow my cover.

One of those options in advanced settings is not selected - out 2x 44.1-48khz. Does that have any effect? How are the external speakers connected?

dmstar1956 wrote on 8/11/2022, 2:50 PM

Sorry. I should have clarified that it's my laptop's built-in speakers when I say external speakers as opposed to my plugged in ear buds. When I use Direct Sound as the driver, project playback (to my ear buds or speakers) works fine, but I get no sound when I'm trying to play a VST. When I switch to the ASIO driver I lose sound for project playback, but VST sound is enabled but only outputs to my laptop's built-in speakers.

dmstar1956 wrote on 8/11/2022, 3:00 PM

Ok. I believe I enabled the setting you suggested. Please see attached screenshot and confirm.

Hi

. . . . When I switch to the ASIO driver I lose sound for project playback, but VST sound is enabled but only outputs to my laptop's built-in speakers . . .

Try installing ASIO4All and using this as the ASIO driver.

Here's another screenshot. Is this how the setting should look? I unchecked the box for Out: 2x 44.1-48k Hz. 32.bits.

dmstar1956 wrote on 8/11/2022, 3:07 PM

With the settings shown above, not getting any sound whatsoever.

dmstar1956 wrote on 8/11/2022, 3:10 PM

Try installing ASIO4All and using this as the ASIO driver...

Ok. Will give it a try.

dmstar1956 wrote on 8/11/2022, 3:13 PM

Once I install it, do I look for in the list of ASIO drivers in Music Maker? If so, it doesn't appear there.

dmstar1956 wrote on 8/11/2022, 7:03 PM

Ok. The newly installed ASIO4ALL driver appears to have done the trick.

Just curious, though: What do the yellow symbols mean? That those settings are disabled? Each of them has a descriptor saying 'Beyond Logic!'

I definitely feel (sometimes) that computers hate me, but everything seems to be working the way it's supposed to now (Thank God!!!).

I had been struggling to configure these settings correctly for almost two months.

Thank you both--Graham-Hawker and johnebaker--for your help.

Hi

. . . . What do the yellow symbols mean? . . . descriptor saying 'Beyond Logic!' . . . .

This usually means there is a mismatch in the samplerate as set in the sound card and what is expected - is the sound card set to 44.1 or 48 kHz samplerate?

I 48kHz and have no yellow symbols.

Here are a couple of screenshots showing the advanced device settings.

Under Realtek HD Audio 2nd output with SST, it shows In: 2x 48k Hz. 16Bits

Under Realtek HD Audio output with SST, it also shows In: 2x 48k Hz. 16Bits

One thing I noticed with the ASIO4ALL driver installed is it (apparently) disables the Windows audio driver because I could get no sound playback in Windows Media Player. When I close Music Maker, then sound playback worked again.

SP. wrote on 8/12/2022, 10:15 AM

@dmstar1956 Yes, that's normal with ASIO4ALL. It only works in exclusive mode. You need another ASIO driver, if you want to non-exclusive audio playback. For example you could use the FL Studio ASIO driver that comes with the free demo version of FL Studio. Or you need to buy an external USB audio interface with ASIO drivers. I also believe that the new Music Maker ASIO driver in Music Maker 2023 works in non-exclusive mode. This driver replaced the old Magix Low Latency 2016 driver.

The sample rate of audio inputs can be changed in the Windows sound settings. You can also allow there, that program can change these settings by themselves. The sample rates of your Music Maker project can be changed in the project settings.

If you have Music Maker 2023, using the Magix Asio driver (default) as shown below allows all audio devices to play simultaneously.
