Sound adjustments

Ahrite wrote on 12/20/2013, 12:57 PM

Hello, I'm new to this site and the music on here is good. The question I have is how do you adjust your music to get that smooth professional sound? Whenever I create music, I'm always struggling with the sound adjustments. The music sounds great at first, but whenever it's uploaded into a site or CD, the music itself sounds horrible. Can anyone give me some advice on how to adjust music properly, so that whenever a music is uploaded, all the sounds are properly tuned?

P.S. I'm using an older program: MMM 16.

Hi,

I can only see one song posted by you on show and discuss, and it sound OK.  The only comment I could offer on that one song is that you seem to have boosted the low end and high end frequencies and there is really no mid range.  How did you go about mastering the music after you had finished recording it?  Mastering is a critical element in any music production, and that is where you can make it sound good or not so good.  If you just mixed it and used a little EQ that may be what you are not liking about how it sounds.  Music Maker is capable or creating excellent mixes but they do need to be mastered to get the most professional sound.  When you mix the tracks, mix a little on the hot side (not too hot so as to create clipping) and then bring it all together when you master the tracks.

Thanks for the info. My sound was too high on PC. That changes everything in which, my low and high frequencies is way off. I'm working on a revised song on the one I have posted. It will take awhile before it's finished. My first song was created by little understanding on how the software works. Again, thanks for the quick response to my question.

Hi,

Would you please let me know when you publish additional material and I would be happy to offer comments on audio quality.  Please feel free to send me a private message when you have a new post to show and discuss.

Have a very happy holiday.  Just so you know, I will be on vacation from December 24 through December 29 so I will not be able to respond during that time.

Happy Holidays,

George

Hi

What are you using to monitor the sound - headphones, earphones (buds) or loudspeakers?

I use a set of high quality headphones (Sennheiser) as you here every little error etc

Is your sound card set to give a neutral response or do you have any effects such as Loudness turned on?

These are very important aspects which must be taken into account when adjusting audio by ear.

John

My sound card was set on 'Live'. Now it is reset. Also, I had to readjust the EQ on the Stereo as well. I use Bose headphones whenever I'm adjusting audio. Sometimes I will use the loud speakers, they are Bose as well.
