@teresa-l

Hi and welcome to the forum.

We need more information to help diagnose the issue(s) you are having:

The specification of your computer system including Windows version and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s) you are working with if this is a laptop.

I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

Are you getting any error messages, if so then please quote them in full or provide screen shots.

Windows crash information would also help - see this short tutorial on how to get this. this short tuorial on how to get crash information ?

Are the graphics card/integrated GPU drivers up to date?

A screen shot of the Program settings, Device options tab  would help.

It the issues occur when adding video to the timeline what video format, codec and resolution are you using - to help with this download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips causing the issue and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

The crash happens when I try to change the folder in the explorer. I like to keep the "working files" (psd, tiff, 50-100MB) in the same folder. Could that explain the issue? It just freezes without warning. won't close. I need to end the program with Task Manager.

Hi

Thanks for the specification.

. . . . The crash happens when I try to change the folder in the explorer. I like to keep the "working files" (psd, tiff, 50-100MB) in the same folder. . .

This could be the cause of the crash, Photostory does not support PSD and many other image file formats..

Supported file formats are BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG, TGA, TIF and some RAW formats.

If you are using audio files and/or video files as well, then only supported formats ought to be in your 'media' folder, you will find the list in the manual available under Help in the program.

Thank you so much. I think we've nailed it.

If I use the top bar to change the folders, it crashes every time.

If I use the left "toolbar" to navigate between folders, it works fine.

Surely a bug that needs addressing.

I’ve just upgraded to Photostory 2024, and find it has many different features that aren’t explained at all in the user manual I downloaded with it. Can you help me with Titles that I am trying to add to the photos. I want to select a different Font, Font size, and Font color and not have to do it for each photo. Also the new (Funky) color wheel and triangle are very difficult to use to pick a color that I would use over and over, unless there is a way to make this a favorite that I can somehow save and use over and over. I also have a problem with the start market not moving to the slide I click on, but one that it two or more photos before it. The preview plays fine but not where the start marker is(?). As I update photos the marker gets further and further behind. I’m concerned that upgrading was a bad decision as I’m making a 45 minute long show from 1400 photos and it is taking way too much time to add any titles.

Titles: it is possible to save the titles as a template and re-use it over and over. (button: top right) Or select the title you like, CTRL-C (copy), go to new position, CTRL-V (paste)

@Dick-Cook

Hi

. . . . the new (Funky) color wheel and triangle are very difficult to use to pick a color that I would use over and over . . .

The colour wheel can be an absolute pain however if you use the colour sliders you can adjust very accurately the colour you to get the colour you desire by:

  • typing values between 0.00 and 1.00 in the text boxes at the end of each slider

  • click the slider to be moved, it will become highlighted, and use the left/right arrow keys on your keyboard to move by 0.01 units up/down.

As @teresa-l has commented, you can save the title as a template, complete with font, size, colour and the other title enhancements available in the title editor. The option to save as a template is also available on right click of the Title object.

A quicker way to duplicate titles is to Ctrl + left mouse click and drag the copy into position.

Thanks for the Help.

Can you tell me how I get the Start marker to position on the slide I have clicked on? It starts OK, but as I update photos with titles - it says on a previous photo, and then gets further and further behind.

I gave up with both the 2023 and the 2024 versions. Too many new features that make life more difficult and other things not working properly or as you would expect. The 2022 Photostory is more stable and so much easier to use.

Dick-Cook wrote on 1/7/2024, 2:32 PM

I too have given up on Photostory 2024. Between crashes and the “start here” marker not being on the correct photo in storyboard mode, it took over 100 hours to produce a 42 minute video. It was very difficult to move photos or insert photos with the screen “jumping” to where it wanted to be versus the photo I had clicked on. The software was not ready for release. I have been in the software industry for 30 years and would be embarrassed to have released such a poor quality version - with really no way to get help. I’m done and will switch to a professional company.
