Hi,

Which loop?

Are you using an instrument different from the one for which the loop was made?

In the midi editor, you can modify just about anything that you want. Read up on working with midi in the manual.

Hi

In addition, the MIDI instruments follow the real instruments in the number of notes and range that they have eg a Bassoon will have a different range to for example a Flute.

its a midi loop that comes fom a magix sound pool. shouldnt all the notes work. what determines which notes can be used and which cant in the midi editor. I dont get why the highest notes and lowest notes dont work

browj2 wrote on 4/4/2015, 2:48 AM

You didn't answer the questions.

Some instruments can go higher than others, some lower. Look at the range of the instrument on the keyboard that accompanies it.

Im using Marsh Violins midi loop with String Quartet  instrument and  Oboe. Sorry i dont know how to determine the range of the instrument on the key board . Am i looking at the computer key board  for that

johnebaker wrote on 4/4/2015, 4:34 AM

Hi

You can determine the range of the instruments in MMM by playing each instrument using the keyboard as shown below

The above shows the range for the Vita Oboe highlighted in red

and this the violin

Thanks,  Im used to an older version so couldnt work it out. I also get wierd crackling noises when i play back the Vita tracks of Oboe and String quartet. I dont get why it does this cause they are not a bunch of loops ending and beginning with some clicks, but rather its one midi file per track with selected notes. They should play smooth. the crackling noises appear in different places every time i plav it back. And they appear in the mix down as well. why would this happen?

johnebaker wrote on 4/4/2015, 4:50 AM

Hi

Does the crackling appear when playing back through the computers speakers, on headphones or both?

Do you have a seperate soundcard on the computer motherboard or are you using the integrated sound chip?

the crackling is heard both on computer speakers and head phones and recorded into mixdown wave file,

How do I find out the sound card info about my computer. where would i find that?

my system is Windows 7 desk top, has NVIDIA High Defintion audio, and Conexant Smart audio, dont know if thats what you mean?

I have A toshiba satelite lap top which I think has an integrated soundcard. I havent added or changed the sound card.

Is this two seperate systems ie a desktop computer and a laptop or just a laptop?

If just a laptop - which model is it?

. . . . has NVIDIA High Defintion audio, and Conexant Smart audio . . . .

If just a laptop, that suggests you may have the wrong drivers for the audio chipset.

Hi,

Just to go back to the initial question, Marsh violins (loop from Rock Pop Vol. 8 - Strings) uses the Vita Violin & Reverb instrument. When you open the instrument, you can see the keys that the instrument can play in white on the keyboard. See the image below. The real instrument can't play beyond these notes (usually).

If you change instruments, you will see a different range of notes available for that instrument. You may have to scroll left and right using the scroll slider below the instrument keyboard to see all of the available notes. If you slide it completely to the left, you will see that the first key is greenish. Press and hold it and it will play the default music for the instrument. Some other instruments have yellowish keys. Pressing one of these and then playing on the white keys causes the instrument to be played differently, like staccato, or long attack, or long release, or quick release, etc.

If you have a midi file and you want to use an instrument for which it was not made, you have to make sure that all of the notes are within the range of the instrument.

For Marsh violins, you said that using the Vita String Quartet does not allow all of the high notes to be played. I don't understand, because String Quartet actually has a higher range (one note higher at D above C6) than Violin & Reverb (C6 is the highest note). Looking at the midi file, the highest note in the loop is A above C4, which is well within the range. Thus all of the notes work for me.

Did you transpose the midi notes by a couple of octaves upwards?

Hi

I have just discovered the same crackling on my Toshiba laptop - this did not occur previously and appeared after a large update was installed.

The cause was the dts audio enhancement which are part of the sound system - it was turned on after updating the laptop.

Turning off the enhancement cured the crackling.

Ive turned off all my enhancements in PLAYBACK-SPEAKERS-ENHANCEMENTS as per the page link you gave before. I tried looking for the  DTS enhancements by doing a sytem search and I also looked through device manager. Nothing comes up as DTS. My lap top is about 2.5 years old. Maybe I dont have that enhancement from that company. maybe its called something else on my computer.  i still get that crackling noise Cheers
