I don't think there is for MIDI with video... so, to the best of my knowledge, No.

You can do simple midi track editing, cut & paste etc, but not single note editing nor voice changes. Here's a video clip with its accompanying audio, a .wav file, and a midi file on the (VPX 2.5) timeline:

Hi

Or alternatively -

1.  You create your video in Movie Edit Pro and export it in a suitable format

2.  Load the exported video into Magix Music Maker, create your soundtrack to sync to the video and export it eg as mp3

3.  Load the mp3 into the movie project in MEP and create your final production as DVD, BD or export as a video file

Was going to extend the MIDI options discussion but found a problem.

Seems my MEP 2013 can't load MIDI files from the media pool, but can open a MEP MX project containing the exact same file and plays if properly.

The MIDI file can be copied / pasted between 2013 projects so a temporary workaround would be to put lots of MIDIs into a MX project and get them into 2013 from there.

Can anyone else check this behavior before I do a bug report please?

Regards,

Carl

Wow..Carl...this is very timely because I have just being trying, prior to reading this thread, to get some midi's to open in MEP2013 with the same result. So you are saying I can open them in MX then export them as WAV's and bring them into MEP?

One other work around I have played with is opening Music editor and hitting record while playing them in Win Media Player, but it only seems to record 10 or 15 seconds before stopping recording and asking me if I want to keep the take?? Level is very low also and I can not work out how to raise it other than doing a "Normalize" once it is in MEP.

Hi Peter

Can confirm midi files will not open (or display) from media pool, nor can they be dropped on to the timeline from Windows Explorer.

My MEP2013 has latest patch.

Your problem with recording - Windows 7 and Realtek sound card ? If so is the stereo mixer available as shown here

If not enable it and then you can set your recording level.

John

Not quite. I added my MIDI to a new MEP MX project and saved it as .MVP. The MVP file opened with MIDI intact and playable.

Exporting as .WAV has its benefits as you can then apply all of MEP's audio editing options eg equalizer or reverberation. Seems MIDIs can have fades etc but not much more. My next test will be to see, if I modify a MIDI file (in a dedicated MIDI editor), whether MEP will open a project containing the 'original' and display the modification. I'd suspect yes as it's a bit like proxy editing -- name's the same but contents are different. Would of course have to be careful about play length to no overrun some other object. Better if MEP had a MIDI 'Edit in external editor' option like:

Perhaps none as Magix don't do one of their own? :

-----

AND HERE'S WHY!

I've just sent off a bug report.

ADDED: It's not that they have intentionally removed MIDI support, at least not according o the PDF Help file: There are instructions for loading MIDI files and for selecting drivers if you get no sound and that...

"...Therefore, it is definitely worth using a good sound card or external MIDI-to-sound synthesizer with MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2013."

Thanks John

I have a Soundmax card and Vista and think I stuffed things myself because I thought the line level for stereo mix was in fact a balance control because it says balance next to it. This however is a button, not a label, which opens the individual channel levels.......I also had to rt. click and enable Stereo mix. Anyway, Music Editor 3 seems to be working nicely now to record the WMP playing of the midi and save it as a wav.

Carl - I see the same behaviour as you and John in 2013 and I did try looking for the Internal midi import to disable it and of course it wasn't there. I like you believe it is was intended to still function in 2013, so good that you have reported it as a bug.

Memory cells kick in....

There is Magix 'Samplitude', their PRO audio studio. It can incorporate a video track and, at least with Video Pro X' provide reasonably easy synchronization when either audio or video are updated. But it co$ts! Some time ago I picked up 'Samplitude Producer' a cheaper cut down model. Checking the Magix site that version seems no longer available but there are many different products similar: 'Music Maker' in all its versions, mentioned by John:

and also Samplitude Music Studio 2013 http://www.magix.com/gb/samplitude-music-studio/

Cant see from the web page whethere it supports a video track or not. I'd check out the free trial downloads.

Carl

Magix reply to bug report:

It was noted that MIDI files have never mixed down in a MEP project -- you have to convert them to WAV etc.

Therefore, because MIDI import "...has never accomplished anything other than confusing users (the few that would import a MIDI file in the first place) as to why they have sound on their preview playback in the program but not on their rendered output.", it (MIDI import) has been removed!

Comments anyone?

Carl
