SF Pro 15 Crashing immediately on launch

Roxanne-Coyne wrote on 12/16/2022, 12:37 PM

The application will NOT launch. This may be related to the windows update I performed last night!

Using SF Pro 15 build 161. 64 bit. Won't launch. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice (using Revo) with same result. Second time I omitted all Izotope products.

Here's my windows info:

Edition    Windows 10 Pro
Version    21H2
Installed on    ‎3/‎28/‎2022
OS build    19044.2364
Experience    Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4190.0

Any suggestions?

@Roxanne-Coyne

Is this essentially the same problem as in your previous post here? If so, have you retried the solution that worked then?

Which windows update did you do last night? I ask, because if you are running the version you list (Windows 10 Pro 21H2) you are actually two full builds behind. The latest release is Win 10 22H2.

Hey, Jeff. My PC is telling me that I'm up to date, but clearly something is off. I will work on getting the newest release installed and then I'll see what happens. And yes, this is the same issue I had back in March and I can't quite remember how I resolved it but it definitely had to do with compatibility. I'll work on this and let you know what happens. thanks!

Updated the computer to Win 10 22H2. I also disabled Windows Firewall. don't have McAffee or any other firewall/security.

And the program still won't launch. I've tried running as Administrator. No luck. I've also rebooted several times.

Have you tried resetting Sound Forge?

If you can not open Sound Forge to access the 'File' menu, hold down the 'Ctrl+Shift' keys, whilst launching SF, which opens the reset/clear cache tool.
Normally the reset/clear cache tool command is in the File menu.

Not working. It's not even launching. I get that window saying: Sound Forge has stopped working etc etc

I'm going to uninstall everything again and reinstall. Should I leave out all the additional apps? there's a noise reduction feature and the izotope plugins....and something else that I can't even remember. What do you think? Worth a try?

Update: I reinstalled the drivers for my pre-amp (focusrite scarlett 2i2) because that wasn't working, either.

Then I installed my backup recording software. Spent some time configuring that software to my specifications.

Then, I thought I'd try one last time to run SF......and it opened.

?????????

Could it have been a bad Focusrite driver? No idea.

But it's working for now.

@Roxanne-Coyne

Could it have been a bad Focusrite driver?

Yes, it could, very easily!

Thanks for letting us know and happy recording/editing!

Everything seems to be working properly again, so hopefully that was it. Thanks, Jeff!
