select

Hi... In Magix 11 Deluxe, how do I select one portion of a sound file (object) to change the properties of JUST THAT section? (I'd like to diminish the volume of that section (portion) only).  I see it done in the tutorial video, but it's not clear how he got the mouse to do the selection of one portion.. mine just moves the whole sound file.

Thank you,
cuzzzzz

Hi,

By holding left click of your mouse, draw a rectangle beginning on an empty part of the track and bordering all the objects you want to select.

Other traditionnel method, like in WORD or Excel...  hold Ctrl and clik on all the objects to select.

Both methods could be mixed.

Thanks CBY, but I still just highlight the track, get an icon of a finger and thumb, and it just moves the track.  What mode or view should I be in?   The video tutorial says the "Editor 2.0" mode, or Elastic Audio, but I've been unable to select any portion.. just highlight the whole thing.

I'm actually very computer literate (build 'em, tutor them), but this program is giving me problems.

I have MM-10 and MM-15, and I believe they all work pretty much the same.

To adjust any parameter on any single object, you simply click on the object so it is highlighted.

There are at least two ways to adjust the volume of a single object.

One is to "grab" the box in the middle of the object and drag it up or down as you see fit.

A more precise method is to use the object menu > Volume, and choose to change the volume by decibel level, e.g. 3db, 6db, 12db, etc.

The boxes on each end of an object can be dragged (left or right) to fade the volume of the object in and/or out if desired.

Sorry.  I guess we didn't quite understand the question. I thought you meant just a single object (in its entirety).

The easiest way to do what you want is to break up the object by splitting it.  There is a mouse mode specifically for that purpose.

Then, you can apply effects or change the volume of only that segment of the original object.

Hi,

Excuse me, I read it very quickly. What I describe is relative to the selection of several objects.

If MMM 11 has the same features than MMM 15, in this case you can modulate the volume at track level.

On the left part of the track, click on "fx" (close to "solo mute rec") and choose "volume". A yellow line is drawn on the top, all along the track. Double click on this line to create points you can deplace to increase or decrease the volume.

An other possibility is to use the last but one option with allows to tune other parameters of automation :  pan, volume, distorsion etc....

Thanks all.. I had found how to split it into sections.. will use that.  I'll ALSO keep searching for the method shown in the v.11 tutorial, and post it if I ever work it out.  The splitting method will be just fine, though.

Thanks again

Hi.. FOUND IT... if you highlight an object, then right click to bring up a menu, then click on EDIT WAVE EXTERNALLY near the bottom, the screen comes up that I saw in the tutorial video.  There you can select a section of the file by dragging with the mouse to draw a rectangle around it (as CBY_TLSE mentioned), and edit just that portion.  I knew I wasn't seeing things.. just had to search harder.

Thanks again all.
