Probably not the answer you’re looking for, but Personally, I use OBS Studio for screen recording.

https://obsproject.com/

Windows 10 Pro 22H2 64bit (Fully Patched).
Intel i5 4670.  16 gig ram.  ALL SSD, Nvidia GTX960 (2G VRAM). latest drivers (latest Version).

Audio IF: Focusrite 8i6 3rd Gen.

Software: Magix Movie Studio Suite 2023 22.03.172
Xara Designer Pro X 20 Perpetual.

Hi

To add alternatives to @Promidi, I use Screencast-o-matic and Debut.

  • Screencast

    Advantages:-
    - Creates video editor compatible, ie Constant Frame Rate videos - it records then publishes the recording.

    - Does not frame dropping as the encoding of the capture is done after recording has finished.

    - is not computer resource hungry

Disadvantage:- it cannot capture audio when a program such as Music Maker is using ASIO audio drivers.

  • Debut

Advantage:- captures audio when I need a screen recording of Music Maker when using ASIO audio drivers.

    Disadvantages:-
    - the video captured in real time has to be converted from Variable frame rate to Constant framerate to avoid audio issues.

    - is more resource hungry.

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.

I too use OBS studio. I have no problems producing files that can be edited at quite low bit rates but still quite high quality.

Most of the videos I place directly onto these topics are straight from an OBS capture as they are quick to load and processed by this website.

Downsides, don't record more than one two channel audio input unless you are using Video Pro X or Magix Movie Studio will not cope with the amount of audio tracks in use properly.

It can be fiddly to set up correctly as far as fining an encoding solution that produces files that can be easily edited but not impossible once you figure out the codec settings.

You can't change the looks of the cursor in use and makes highlighting mouse movements harder so see unless you use Windows to modify your mouse movement.

Upsides.

Very light computer resource wise to run.

Very flexible in abilities and can do far more than I've figured out to do.

Now supports and can use av1 for live streaming to YouTube.

Can apply sub picture in picture while recording.

Records audio regardless of other applications usage of ASIO or Direct X.

Able to add third party extensions if desired.

Output video codecs available are reasonably extensive.

Can ignore mouse movement capture.

Is free.

Hi

. . . . don't record more than one two channel audio input ..... or Magix Movie Studio will not cope with the amount of audio tracks in use properly . . . .

There is a work around for this that gives you all streams and reduces the load on MMS/system with 2 or more streams - see @browj2's tutorial here - the mixdown is repeated for all audio streams.

& just to throw my penny in, I use Nvidia Geforce, Alt+F1 records the screen & Alt+F9 takes a snapshot, there's more to it, but I don't go there 🤷‍♂️
