Scratchy audio when importing video from Magix MEP 2013

Hey all,

I have an odd problem when imported video from my Fuji Finepix HS10.  When I import a mov file into a project, the video is perfect but the audio will sound scratchy every 2 seconds... like when you change the channel on an old TV set.

I don't know what else to say but the video is shot in 720p and the audio is 48khz.  I have not tried any other file yet but playback of the original file with Movie Player or VLC sound fine.  Only when in MEP and the audio is bad after export too, same issue.

Hello Jacques.

I don't have a definite answer for you but your description of this intruding "white noise" appearing only in MEP (which version BTW?) would immediately lead me to suspect either some audio sampling mismatch between MEP and your imported footage or some mysterious problem with your QuickTime installation.  (.mov files need QT to be readable.  Though the fact you say that Movie Player (I assume you mean Windows Movie Player?) and VLC both play the file without problem would suggest QT is not the reason.)

So, have you checked that MEP is definitely set to work at 48kHz?  Can you find, download and install the free MediaInfo utility, if you don't already have it, and check that the imported file is definitely 48kHz?

Sorry I can't be more helpful than these rather vague suggestions, but please post back and let us know whether you are able to sort this problem; such information may well prove very helpful to other MEP users.

Hey Jeff, 

Thank you for the reply and yes, this was helpful.  I downloaded and used the software you recommended.  The audio format is PCM 48khz, 16bit 2 channel (little/signed).  So for now to get around the problem, I am using VLC player and converting the audio stream to MP3 then importing it into the project. 

I don't know if Movie Edit 2013 likes PCM streams but I will keep searching for an answer.  Thank you for giving me a step forward.
