Samsung .mp4 plays everywhere fine except MEP2013 Plus

mailboxmoney wrote on 5/23/2013, 5:56 PM

Recording videos from my phone.  I've imported the files into other players and they play perfectly fine.  When I import them into Movie Edit Pro 2013 PLUS, the visual portion stands still somewhere after the first few minutes of the video and all that continues to play is audio.I've tried importing it into standalone MEP projects as well.  Same thing goes.

I have an i7, win 7, 500 gb HD, with 4gb ddr3 Ram.  Machine flies... no problem.

Looking on the forum, to locate a specific codec, I noticed you say to download mediafile.exe which I just downloaded the latest version.  (It appeared that GSpot didn't have a Win7 version- or maybe I'm missing something)

I'm not much of a techie, so once I opened the file, I saw the file's video codec id is titled 'avc1'.  There's also an audio codec which is differently named.

Looked up the codec and found it here http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/?source=dlp
but not sure what to do with it really once I downloaded that software.

How does one make the potential codec shake hands with MEP13 PLUS ??  Any ideas or other suggestions.

Hi

This seems to be a common problem with smartphone videos for which there appears to be no specific cure.

I would avoid downloading the various 'All in One' codec packs as I have seen some of these seriously mess up the already installed codecs.

For the Samsung phone make sure you have the Samsung Kies software installed and try transferring  /converting  the files using this, then import into MEP.

. . . . It appeared that GSpot didn't have a Win7 version- or maybe I'm missing something . . .

Does not matter,  the last version of GSpot will run on Win 7.

Well ,

It's a little late as the 5 hours of phone videos have been dumped on to the PC already (and, of course, deleted from the phone).

Honestly, I couldn't figure out what to do with the ffdshow software anyway.  Unfortunately, it's already installed.  Not sure it's doing anything- good or bad.

This does indeed seem to be a codec problem.  The files work in Windows Media Player and import just fine into Windows Live Movie Maker.  I saw someone in the forum had converted his files (using Hampster) and that seemed to work for him.  So I tried to export one of the files as a .wmv from Movie Maker.  Unfortunately, it disconnects the audio from the video (though not as bad as Magix as it does play the video through to the end).

Do you know which 'all in one' pack caused the problems, John?
I was just looking at the K Lite Codec Pack. It's reported that it seems to work well in bringing in the right codecs to the mix.  Is that the one you're talking about?

Thanks!

Paula

Hi

K Lite is one that I have found to cause some problems as well as ffdshow.

I have found that on occassion a codec in the pack will 'substitute' itself for an already installed codec and I had to uninstall the pack and re-register the original codec.

The behaviour of the all in one packs depends a lot on what codecs you already have installed.

Other users swear by them - from experience I am very wary.
