Samplitude Music Studio - "Maximum of 16 Plug-ins"?

Munenushi wrote on 9/2/2016, 5:08 AM

Forgive me, I am new at using VST/VSTi's and new with MAGIX products... but I have used Sony's ACID Music Studio, which is now under MAGIX, so I have utilized Loops in music creation in the past, but not any Virtual Instruments/MIDI at all... thus I have a question (that is probably a very simple one..).

I recently purchased MAGIX Samplitude Music Studio and ran into an error:

It states:

"This version of Samplitude Music Studio allows a maximal number of 16 plug-ins per object, track, or master"

The Project I am working on has over 20 Tracks and I was now going through assigning Instruments (VSTi) to them for further editing and mastering.
Does this message mean that I can only apply up to 16 VSTi's to the Project in total?

Is this a limitation with MIDI Instruments/Plugins or with Samplitude Music Studio?

I did not find any higher versions of Samplitude Music Studio programs listed at the MAGIX website, but I do see the "Producer-level" Samplitude X2 applications... Do they allow more than 16 Instruments per Project?
Those programs are more money than I was planning to spend, but I would look towards it in the future if they did not have this limitation.

Thank you for any input or ideas...

Hi,

There is a difference between the plugins and instruments. I'm not sure if Samplitude Music Studio 2016 will allow you to use more than 16 tracks each with a different instrument. Try it to see. You may run out of memory.

The plugins are effects on objects, tracks, and master, like EQ, Compression, Reverb, etc.

Samplitude Pro X2 is the next level up. I just tried it with 18 instruments, and no problems.

Greetings John and thank you for your input, I was confused a bit, as there seems to be a mixing of the usage of terms "plugins" and "instruments" between the Help file and how people were using the terms online (here and other MIDI forums)...

Interestingly, before Samplitude Music Studio, I had purchased Music Maker Premium and I had created a (somewhat-large?) Project (~40 Tracks) and managed to assign more than 16 Instruments going through it; but MMMP crashed... Looking in the Windows Task Manager, Music Maker Premium is listed as a 32-bit Application, and it was using ~3GB of RAM at the time, so this is somewhat understandable as it 'hit its limit'.

I asked MAGIX Support if I could 'switch' to Samplitude Music Studio, which they helpfully processed for me and Samplitude is humming along, detected at 64-bits in Windows and running great; the only odd limitation/occurrence is this "16 plug ins" message.

I opened up the same Project in Samplitude Music Studio (MMM Projects are Importable into Samplitude!) and when going to assign another new Instrument (VSTi) it states the message above (about the 16-plugins limit).

Your comment however, gave me the idea to try to assign more than 16 "FX" and found I already have more than 30 FX throughout the entire Project (I did not test assigning more than 16 FX to one Track yet). So it appears that the message is possibly referencing "Instruments"; but thank you for letting me know that the next level up in Samplitude does not experience this issue!

And thank you for contributing to the figuring of all of this out

Hi Munenushi,

I don't have SMS2016, uninstalled 2015 but tried 2014. I managed to get 8 instruments on 8 tracks and when I tried a ninth I got an error message. So I assume that there was a limit of 8 and it has probably been raised to 16, if that is what you are finding.
