Create or add an audio recording of any length.  Cut the recording in 2 places and delete the center portion.  The deleted segment is not closed up, whether Ripple Edit is on or off (no change either way).  

I tried the same thing In Vegas and ripple works fine and the Ripple on/off function works there perfectly.
