I know this must be a simple solution, but darned if I can find it! How can I replace a clip/object on the timeline with a different video clip from the import window? Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Presuming that you're using Video Pro X, right-click on the import button on the toolbar above the timeline to open the list. Swap or shortcut 4. Don't forget to switch back to 1 afterwards.

EDIT: When you go back to 1, make sure that nothing is selected in the Media Pool.

Simple answer: highlight the clip you wish to remove and hit the Delete key. Make sure there is still a gap where that clip has been removed and the cursor is at the beginning of that gap.

Drag the clip you want to insert to that "gap". If it is longer than the gap it will be placed on the next, lower available track and, if you want it on the same track you will need to move all the following clips "backwards", using mouse mode "Single track" (shortcut, number key 8) and then drag the clip upwards into the newly-sized gap.

If the new clip is shorter, using that same mouse mode, drag the following clips forward to close the gap.

HTH. If not, please post back and tell us a little more about exactly what you are trying to do! You mention you are using the timeline view - which is by far the best one, IMO - so if m y suggestion doesn't work it's possible you are actually using Storyboard view.
