Removing of Back Ground Sound

Theuns-Serfontein wrote on 1/23/2025, 10:32 AM

I am not new To Vegas Pr but I have never used Sound Forge yet I do sit with Sound Forge Pro 18 and Vegas Pro 22

I want to know if you can remove background noise like a Fan running in the background Ext.

I know you can do it with "Audacity" but why do it with "Audacity" f I can do it with Sound Forge

I went to YouTube to ask and find the video but that was the Sound Forge12 version

but what he talked about did change so I can't fix my problem with this video.

Looking forward to hear from you

@Theuns-Serfontein

Hi,

Did you get SF Pro Suite? If so, then SpectraLayers would be the tool to use.

If not, you can try the iZotope RX10 Elements DeNoiser that comes with Sound Forge Pro. I suggest that you read up on how to use the Denoiser first. Check if you have the RX10 Repair Assistant as it may also help you out.

You play back some of the audio, starting with a section that has just the noise that you want to reduce, continuing into the good audio. The tool will Learn what is bad and try to reduce that (with a suggestion). You can control the amount to avoid audio artefacts.

@Theuns-Serfontein I think that Sound Forge Pro 18 should also come with a separate installer for the legacy Noise Reduction Suite, which works similar to Audacity.

But yes, AI based vocal isolation is a much better method these days. If you don't have SpectraLayers it might work fine in a free tool like Ultimate Vocal Remover which splits pure vocal stems from audio files. Usually it's used on music but should work on audio recordings as well.

@browj2 Thx for your Help I sit with Vegas Pro Suite 22 where Sound Forge Pro 18 and ACID Pro 11

is part of it.

What is "SF Pro Suite" ?

" I suggest that you read up on how to use the Denoiser first." Is this part of  Sound Forge Pro ?

is this " RX10 Repair Assistant" Part of Sound Forge?

Sorry for the reply to what you suggested but as I said I never used Sound Forge before

I record the Sunday service with my video camera and the roof fan is on the entire service so there is not a place where it doesn't make the blowing sound in the video.

@Theuns-Serfontein I'm not sure if the extras for Sound Forge Pro 18 are included in the Vegas Bundle. The main software is Vegas and Sound Forge is a bonus. Usually, if you buy Sound Forge separately, you get additional software as well, like iZotope RX Elements and different audio effect plugins. Could be very well be the case, that this isn't included in your bundle.

Has your version of Sound Forge a separate installer or was it installed during the Vegas installation?

@Theuns-Serfontein If I run my installer of Sound Forge Pro 15 Suite, I get the following options:

As you can see, there is the option for the Noise Reduction Pack. If this is missing in your Sound Forge installer, then it isn't included in your version of Sound Forge.

You will then have to use something different to reduce the noise. Like I recommended, you could try Ultimate Vocal Remover (but it is a different application) or you can try the following ERA Bundle audio effect plugin suite from Accusonus. They were bought out by Facebook for their patents and went out of business. They removed the license check from their plugin suite and offered them to download. Their website is offline, but the software was archived on the Internet Archive. Sound Forge can simply load these VST plugins.

@Theuns-Serfontein Try these effects:

You don't have Spectra Layers. It is only included in Sound Forge Pro Suite or you need to buy it individually from Steinberg. It is not included in the non-Suite version.

@Theuns-Serfontein Depends on what you want to isolate. You usually need to capture a noise print of the background noise (bottom left corner) to get a usable result. But be aware, these old algorithms were state-of-the-art 25 years ago and can create an underwater-effect if too much noise is removed. So you already need a somewhat usable recording with only slight noise (like tape hiss or mechanical noise from the recorder or player). The NR Pack also doesn't remove reverb.

For a lot of noise or reverb an AI based solution is probably better suited.

Hi,

SF = Sound Forge

It's not clear to me what you have in the way of third party effects. According to the Comparison chart on the Magix.com site, with SF Pro 18 you should have iZotope RX10 Elements.

What do you see under FX Plug-ins in the top menu, like in the image below:

Also, what do you have under Cleaning in the left side window? I circled the RX Voice Denoise effect.

Please post a screen shot of the interface showing the Third party plugins.

EDIT: the screen shot that you just posted shows the cleaning effects collapsed. Open them.

Hi,

OK, you have it open now. I see that you have RX Voice Denoise. Try that as well, even just to see which version that you have.

Strange that you don't have more third party effects. When you purchased SF Pro, was there anything else in the email to be downloaded?

For RX Voice De-noise, open the De-noise effect. Select optimize for Dialogue or Music. Press on the Learn button, click on the timeline, and start playback. Let it run or check preview to see how it is. When you press ok, it will be processed. Undo and do again until you like it. Or something like that.

SF Pro works differently from other tools that I use so the SF part is strange to me.

The legacy noise reduction tool in the 'Noise Reduction Pack' (aka, NR-2.0) works well on din type noise (HVAC for instance) as does iZ's RX Elements as @SP. stated. With either, getting a good 'noise print' of the extraneous noise works better than the 'auto' mode. For complex noise removal, SpectraLayers Pro would be wanted.

The third-party audio plug-ins that are included when Sound Forge Pro is purchased singularly, are not included with the Vegas Pro 22 Suite.
