I am not sure there is a setting in Sound Forge to remove all it's context menu items (aside from uninstall). I use 'Default Program Editor' frequently to customize context menus. Nirsoft;s ShellMenuView is another great utility for context menus.. 'Default Program Editor' and Nirsoft's other utilities are great for many types of Win Explorer customization.
btw, welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users forum @Dave-Polcino.
I have the same issue. I first installed v15, and both context menus were there. When I later uninstalled v15, it left the context menu. See pic. I don't think it's going to be as easy as using a utility to remove the Windows "Open With" context menu. Probably going to take some editing in the registry.
Uninstall Sound Forge with Revo Uninstall (free or pro) using the advanced scan mode. If you have two versions of SF installed, beware of removing shared data..
Nirsoft also has a free context menu editor, though I have not tried it with the SF entries.
@Bill-Fike I have a file called RemoveCustomContextMenu.reg in my SoundForge Pro 15 Suite\IAScripts subfolder that looks like it deletes all context menu entries. I would suggest you look inside your Pro 14 folder, if you can find a similar file there. In case you have already deleted the folder look at the keys in the Pro 15 folder.
The keys look like
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Directory\shell\SOUND FORGE Pro 15.0 (x64)CMCustom
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\SystemFileAssociations\.aif\shell\SOUND FORGE Pro 15.0 (x64)CMCustom
etc.
I would guess you need to delete the corrosponding Pro 14 keys from the registry by hand.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Directory\shell\SOUND FORGE Pro 14.0 (x64)CMCustom
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\SystemFileAssociations\.aif\shell\SOUND FORGE Pro 14.0 (x64)CMCustom
SF Pro 15, build 45 release notes item: - Added registry <.reg> file for removing all SOUND FORGE context menus. "C:\Program Files\SOUND FORGE\SOUND FORGE Pro 15.0" "RemoveSFContextMenus.reg" in the SF-15 main folder. May not work in Pro 14 but the registry path will be very similar to remove manually.
Thanks for the responses. That .reg file contains maybe 200 registry keys pertaining to v15. Doing it manually for 14 would be a pain. I've contacted support. Maybe I just live with it until the next time I need to reinstall Windows.
I arrived to this thread when trying to search on how to disable the Sound Forge Pro 14.0 context menu, which appears whenever I right-click on any folder.
After digging in for some time, I found this registry key:
I'm using the latest Sound Forge Audio Studio 16.1 (x64) on Windows 11 and can't get rid of the context menu.
I ran the RemoveCustomContextMenu.reg -file in the folder and restarted - did it twice - but the right-click context menu is still shown.
I also checked HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\shell\ in the registry but it doesn't contain anything for Sound Forge. Yet I still see the context menu.
How can I disable the Sound Forge context menu in Windows? (Without reinstalling anything)
