@CubeAce

Hi Ray

. . . . Any OFX effects I have in use within MEP or VPX (Boris Titler) almost max out my CPU as they primarily use CPU cores over GPUs . . . .

I have mentioned this many times before, many effects and object types are not accelerated: eg images and titles titles and any effects applied to them are not. Effects applied to video are a mixed bag depending on the combinations and if the video export is a format that can be accelerated eg h.264/AVC/h.265.

Mercalli stabilisation appeared to not be accelerated in MEP 2021 and VPX 12 however does in VPX 13.

Thanks John, so VPX 13 does export in H264 (being AVC). Magix needs to change that check box for H264 export to a tick.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Is there a way to disable hardware acceleration in v. 13?

This would be a question for someone testing the program.

Hopefully John can tell you if that option still exists. Personally I'm in no hurry to upgrade as yet.

Hi

. . . . Is there a way to disable hardware acceleration in v. 13? . . . .

I mentioned this in my first post and despite what the new manual and website manual say the options are not available on the Import & Export tab.

I think the Microsoft WARP options - Program settings, Device options tab, Hardware acceleration section are the alternative as this is software based and independent of a GPU, it is also appears to be faster than the old way of software rendering, as I have mentioned previously.

It's the first time I've seen any mention of Microsoft WARP device.

Any explanation of its purpose or interaction with GPUs?

. . . That whole specs page is misleading and confusing . . . .

I find the specs clearer then they were for VPX 12, with the exception of lack of details of what the 'common formats only' are.

So far:

  • export settings Calculate video effects on GPU has been dropped
  • Import & Export tab has no HWA options
  • There are more choices for GPU selection in the program settings

I also managed to trigger Hardware Acceleration has been turned off during export 😕 and freeze parts of the program - cannot close/exit.

To me it looks like the common formats only is marked with (*1) in the "Video Formats" section to denote which formats is included Comon formats only.

To me it looks like the common formats only is marked with (*1) in the "Video Formats" section to denote which formats is included Comon formats only.

People won't look at the "formats", they'll look at the "codecs". Expert video-graphers won't touch any program that cannot export H264, as the current literature says for VPX.

That whole specs page needs to be proof-read by a native english-speaker who is a subject-matter expert. Any confusing, illogical or incorrect text or notes just diminishes the professional impression Magix needs to portray for people to buy the product.

I have 2 problems (so far) after updating to X13.

1. Why do I not have the option of creating a 360 ° when creating a project and in the film settings? Or how does it work now?

2. With the film and cut templates I can no longer change the duration of the template after selecting a template via the gear wheel. Only 15 seconds are displayed as a selection option.

Is it just me who have these problems?

So... My New Update crippled my 'effects' and crashed my computer about 10 times... VPX13 has a bug and my 25+ years of having Magix Video Editing Software tells me it won't be resolved... From fully functional software to an absolutely unstable one that kills workflow and may NOT be relied upon to do major work... Can I retrieve the previous version ?????????/

Crashes often with no warning or message, VPX 19.0.1.99 just disappears. Crashes often with warning.

New F1 Help type. Press F1 to see.

Rotation handle is missing. See the manual showing where it should be. Nothing is there.

Oops - one of the images with rotation no longer has handles, only the origin point. Played around - crashed.

It's tough to review this version as it's not stable long enough to do much. Not ready for prime time, IMHO.

I will definitely not try putting this on my desktop computer.

Installed the trial yesterday - was looking forward to AMD acceleration on export. Seems to work very fast on simple clips, but...Fade ins/outs are not rendering with AMD hw acceleration. Interestingly enough, they show in the rendering preview, but in the exported video it's just a cut, no fade in or out. CPU rendering is OK, but about 3x slower.
More complicated transitions - like shutter do render. This version clearly needed more QA.

How do I uninstall 13 to version 12? I have a lot of work waiting and losing money because I can't work on the 13th, the most important editing functions for me do not work. I have an Intel i9 7920X GPU GTX1080ti (2 pieces) and 64 GB. It has to be enough to work well and it doesn't work on version 13. I feel cheated. Help me get back to version 12. It was working fine.

View/Animation Size/Position - where have the Zoom slider and zoom factor box gone to? Surely Magix didn't remove this. I use it extensively.

Also, the button and hint should be in English, see above.

I checked HitFilm Zoom Blur and keyframing the X factor still causes the Y factor to go to Infinity. At least now it says Infinity. Why can this not be fixed after more than 2 years?

Testing multicam (trial version)

In the source viewer you just get an image of one of the tracks (full size) - with coloured box for each of the tracks - you dont see the individual tracks in the boxes.

@matthew-shurmer

I can confirm this! However, I think it is rather more complex than you suggest.

First, I can only activate multicam mode in Timeline view if I place (in my experiment) three videos on tracks 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8 and then go to "Scene overview", at which point the icon to activate multicam becomes highlighted/active and I can return to Timeline view. The menu option Edit>Multicam DOES activate that mode in Timeline view.

Second, only the video on Tracks 5/6 is visible in the Source window, though clicking one of those "boxes" does add either Tracks 3/4 or 5/6 to the Program on tracks 1/2. But there is no box for 7/8 and I cannot select it at all via the Source screen. However, if I click directly on Track 7 its video transfers to the Program screen but is NOT added to the Tracks 1/2 timeline and what is actually on those tracks does not play.  I suspect that what is happening is that, in this latter scenario, multicam mode is, in effect, being turned off and only the lowest track (= highest-numbered) is visible, as is standard for Magix video products.

Thankfully, from my personal point of view, I do not imminently need to use multicam mode but problems like those listed in this thread should most definitely NOT be occurring.

It is extremely disheartening that the initial debacle with the release of MM 2021 seems to be being repeated with VPX 13.

13 goes at it and they still can't get it right. A change of name won't fix it.
I have just paid $227 AU for the upgrade service and I'm not game to use it.
More deja vu.
VPX 12 has been great for me with only the rare crash so I'll stick with that for the moment.
