[Release] SOUND FORGE Pro 13 - The all-new SOUND FORGE Pro

MAGIX_Redaktion wrote on 4/23/2019, 3:06 AM

Dear Community,

For over 25 years, SOUND FORGE Pro has set the benchmark for recording, editing and processing audio. Now we have released the all-new SOUND FORGE Pro 13, which raises the benchmark yet again.

What's new?

SOUND FORGE Pro 13 further enhances the traditional strengths of SOUND FORGE Pro by adding new mastering and delay effects, along with an improved user experience, with more efficiency, stability and speed for ultimate audio production. It comes with a fully customizable new interface that can be personalized to fit individual preferences and workflows. The new icon design provides a clearer interface, showing all-important audio editing features at a glance.

The software has an enhanced VST2/3 engine and ARA2 interface extension, that offers greater stability and speed when using plug-ins, and allows users to work faster and more precisely. The new Peak Meter V2 allows reliable peak level measurement of digital audio signals according to international industry standards, and shows the precise, current level of an audio signal in real time.

Thanks to the new élastiquePro v3 engine, time stretching and pitch shifting are now possible without any artefacts and sound degradation. The new coreFX mastering and delay effects allow precise dynamic control, excellent audio quality and the production of accurate echo effects.

There are two versions of SOUND FORGE Pro 13 to choose from:

•   SOUND FORGE Pro 13

•   SOUND FORGE Pro 365

With the flexible subscription service of SOUND FORGE Pro 365 you will receive all the functionality of SOUND FORGE Pro 13 as well as regular updates, patches and features, plus an exclusive, high-quality plug-in set – starting from $9.99 per month.

Furthermore, the SOUND FORGE community can look forward to the SOUND FORGE Pro 13 Suite that will be released this summer.

We are excited to see what you think about the new version – let us know!

I now have SoundForge 12.6 (build 356, 64-bit) and the new version 13 - and they are vastly different. SF12 has many more options and features compared to 13. Why? It looks like 13 is nearly the same as SF11 - though it does indeed have more capabilities. Examples:

SF12 - save as, save each region as a separate .mp3 file - very useful. No such option in 13.
SF12 - Region finder feature
SF12 - Normalize has an array of extra options. And the process 'tests' run for the entire selection.

What is going on? Did I mistakenly obtain a 'pro' version - though it does not show the word 'pro' anywhere?

Is the SF13 still undergoing development and these options are to be put back? (please). I like the new 'event' mode tool.

You wouldn't have perhaps downloaded Sound Forge Audio Studio 13 rather than Sound Forge Pro 13 by chance? Audio Studio does not have 'Pro' nomenclature whereas SF Pro 13 does.

Save each region to a file was a script in Sound Forge Pro 11. Tools -> Scripting -> Save Regions as Files

Region Finder is just a basic QoL/Convenience. Sound Forge Pro has had a Region List... since forever. Name your regions, and it's not hard to find them. If you use Regions a lot, you probably have that docked, already... especially if you use a multi-monitor setup (who isn't? :-P ).

Both 12 and 13 felt like minor updates, to me. 12 was hyped a bit because of 64-Bit and VST3, but all of my Plug-Ins still have 32-Bit and VST2 variants.

There are 3 major plug-ins that I know of that use ARA, and IMO they are more at home in a DAW than a Wave Editor.

This feels a bit more like a VEGAS Pro 15-type update, IMO. Will stay on 11. I think the next update is going to be bigger. They seem to be taking a couple of years to work under the hood and do some UI stuff cleanup before focusing so much on "new features" - in these newer (acquired from Sony) products. ACID Pro is in a similar state, so far (however SFP11 was in monumentally better shape than AP7 - and 64-Bit matters a lot more to NLEs and DAWs than it does to Wave Editors).

Given the neglect from Sony (basically ceding the market), that isn't a bad idea. Pricing for Sound Forge does seem to be a bit high, probably due to the Wave Editor market having less competition than the NLE and DAW market... but at only $150 less than WaveLab Pro (if you're already paying $400 for a new license), and the fact that Steinberg's upgrades are appreciably cheaper (unless you waited a long time to upgrade)… it is hard to compete with this pricing.

I'd like to see more competitive pricing, personally. Not just for "cheaper," but to grow the ecosystem so we can have more people writing scripts, etc. for the product; as well as developing more educational content centered around it (to get more people onto it).

The name not saying Pro can be a bug. They've had similar bugs in SFAS 12, where the name of the application was wrong. They had to patch it to correct it :-P

Hi All,

Started using SoundForge in the 90's/early 00's and loved it. Sony unfortunately didn't really keep it updated but with these new owners, I thought to jump back in 😄

Sorry if this is the wrong spot to ask (I'll delete the post if it is) but would you pro's kindly tell me:

Can Sound Forge Audio Studio 13 (build 45 / trial) do cross-fade operations?

  • Use SF primarily to create seamless loops and fade-in/fade-out on files.
  • Cannot find the usual SF crossfade options - I used SF 4 to 8 professionally for over ten years, so it might be an old-workflow thing that has since changed?
  • Cannot find it in the menu's (only says paste/overwrite/replicate in the paste special menu)
  • it's not showing dragging a new clip (ctrl-c, ctrl-e - drag drop) unto the old one
  • not there when right clicking
  • not there when using the old CTRL-F shortcut

Did I get unlucky and downloaded a bad build?
Is it a settings option?
Is crossfading not part of a cut/paste workflow in Studio?

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Thanks!

Don't know about Audio Studio (AS), but in SF Pro, x-fading can be done in the 'event' mode, and behaves very similar to Vegas. Otherwise, I do not use that function much in SF.

@Raznilof Event Tool incl. Crossfade option is included

Raznilof wrote on 5/28/2019, 4:00 PM

Thanks for the replies.

I understand that the previous copy > paste (crossfade) workflow has been replaced by an "event" mode system.

At first glance that seem less quick / intuitive as I am used too (which is > select, ctrl x, cursor home, ctrl-f) but you've giving me an investigation clue to figure this our, thanks :)

I'm a Sound Forge 12 Pro owner and am considering upgrading to Sound Forge Pro 13. I'd prefer to switch over to the 365 subscription but once you scroll down to the bottom of the 365 subscription page it clearly states on the site directly under "SOUND FORGE Pro 365" the words "SOUND FORGE Pro 12 month subscription".

Does anyone know when the 365 subscription will also cover Sound Forge Pro 13 or is this just a typo? I know the moderator said that 365 covers 13 Pro but the site contradicts his statement. Just being safe as I don't want to subscribe to Pro 12 which I already have in the regular download version...

"Extract Regions" has been on the Tools menu forever.
