Rejoin two split objects

Movie Studio Plat 2023.

If I split a video clip into two, can I then rejoin those 2 pieces, and if, how?

I have read a lot of instructions about "joining" video clips, but these seem to be more about placing them together in a project, then rendering.

Grouping seems to make them get selected together and follow each around if moved, but actually be glued as one object.

Thanks for any help

Nick

Easy. Remember that the underlying video file still exists in one piece. It's only the visualisation of it on the timeline you have split.

Solution: delete one of the sides of the "split" and drag either the left end, or the right end, as the case may be, to expose the remainder of the video file.

Say you have split an object. Now delete the left half. To re-expose that half, simply drag the left edge of the remaining bit to the left until it stops, and the bit you deleted will become visible again, but the whole video file will be in one piece/object.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Thanks for that. I am not used to making full use of non-linear editing. I feel daft. I had seen that before in other apps, but hardly ever used the idea.

No need for the video: even my tired old brain got it :(, but thanks for your effort.
