Reduce Frame rate in Pro X 19

Steven123 wrote on 1/10/2025, 1:28 PM

I've reduced the fps for my 8mm transfer from 20 fps to 16 fps+/- by right clicking on the timeline and selecting 'properties'., That works perfectly. However, when I apply this to the timeline, it also cuts off some of the clip. Also, when I hit 'home' on the keyboard, it doesn't return to the beginning but rather another location on the timeline. How can I reduce the fps and leave the clip on the timeline complete? I'm using a PC with plenty of hard disc space and a Nvidia 4090 card.

@Steven123 Hi, your post doesn't make sense .

Pro X 19..? , I've never heard of that? The latest Video Pro X version is VPX16.

..? I might be missing something here but in VPX (VPX14) & in Vegas Pro 19 right clicking properties doesn't allow you to change the frame rate of the media. You cannot just change the properties of media by simply changing the frame rate in it's properties.

You can change the frame rate of the VPX/Vegas Pro project settings but not the frame rate of the orig media, I don't think any editor allows this, to change the frame rate of media you have import to the timeline & then export or render the media from the program (VPX) to a folder, doing that you're recoding the media to the chosen frame rate.. The majority if not all the programs I have used don't allow you to overwrite the orig media so this export will be creating a new piece of media in your folder & the orig isn't & can't be overwritten.

So can you give a better description of your program & problem using the correct terms/names? You can post pictures & video using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment

--------------

Whatever you're doing the only thing I can think of is to grab the end of the media on the timeline & drag it to make it longer.

Neither in VPX or Vegas Pro does changing the project frame rate create the problem you're mentioning,

PS.

by right clicking on the timeline and selecting 'properties'., That works perfectly. However, when I apply this to the timeline, it also cuts off some of the clip.

Uh? 🤷‍♂️

@Steven123

Hi,

Welcome back from the future. Please whisper to us the new features that Magix has added between 16 and 19 and if they fixed the bugs.

For your 8mm film, change the Effect, Speed (under Effects) from 20 to 16. Copy and paste this effect to any other 8mm clips that you might have on the timeline.

Thanks for your responses. I apologize for my error. I was referring to Vegas Pro 19! I will try John's solution (if it, in fact applies to my software) and see what happens. Again, sorry for the confusion! Steve

@Steven123 Hi, thanks for clarifying that, @browj2's suggestion is referring to VPX (Vide Pro X) & won't work for you, it's a totally different program to Vegas Pro that you have.

For Vegas Pro there's a different forum, yo should make a post on there https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/vegas-pro-forum/

PS. I mainly use Vegas Pro & your orig comment doesn't make sense in that program either, so when you post on the Vegas forum inc some screen shots if you're unfamiliar with the correct terms, 👍
