Recording Error

Barbara-Felder wrote on 6/27/2023, 7:56 AM

I have Audio Cleaning Lab 17 that I have been using forever on my Windows 7 computer that crashed and burned. I bought a HP Windows 11. My Audio Cleaning Lab 17 loaded perfectly. BUT and this is why I am here needing help. When I go to Import a cassette tape, as soon as I hit the record button, I keep getting this error. "The wave shape device 'Microsoft Sound Mapper' can not record this format. Reason: A device has been used that is out of range of your system." I have everything hooked up as before. I have loaded and unloaded the program. And I still keep getting this error. What is my next step so I can get my Audio Cleaning Lab 17 to work? Thank you.

Hi,

Try this. Click on settings on the Cassette screen and change the Audio input to the computer audio line input. There must be something else in that box.

I did that. And there is nothing to select at all.

Hi,

If nothing is there, then your computer is not detecting the line in. ACL can only use what is available.

I don't have W11 so I don't know what has changed, but you should be able to open Sound Settings in Windows (right-click on the speaker button in the bottom task bar) and check that your input devices are turned on.

@Barbara-Felder You also need to make sure that microphone access is enabled in the Windows security settings or otherwise Windows will block any audio recording to prevent hacking of your webcam.

@SP.

Hi,

To import from a cassette player, it needs to be connected to the audio in port of the computer.

I'm not sure how this works on a laptop. I presume that it requires a 3.5mm mini plug with the cassette ouputs going to the mic inputs.

I have made some progress as I can now get the program to start a recording but I not have any volume. I have played with the volume some but no success. I have to leave for work. Hopefully when I get back I can further check out your suggestions. Thank you.

Thank you everyone. I got everything to work perfectly if not better than before!
