Purpose of .H0 files?

terrypin wrote on 3/3/2013, 10:01 AM

Has anyone figured out exactly how and when MEP uses .HO files?

Including backups and all my versions of MEP I have over 3,000 of them. These are not just the relatively few generated when I actually use a clip or effect in a project, as I usually delete those afterwards when I remember. But the great majority seem to be present from the original installation. An example at random is:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MAGIX\Movie_Edit_Pro_MX_Premium_Download_Version\VideoEffects\Styles\Cinema\cinema_intro2_c.H0

HD space is pretty cheap but I'm wondering whether for neatness and efficiency to delete the lot.

Hi Terry.

My understanding of this, supported, I think, by a little experiment I've just done, is that the .HO files contain the graphic display data for audio files.

To test this, I deleted the .HO file connected to a simple .avi, opened the project in VPX and the audio track had no graphics data visible.  Selecting to "Create Waveform view", the .HO file was recreated.

Hi Terry

. . . . Including backups . . . .

I use SyncBack to backup projects on my internal hard drive to the various external HDD drives I use for backup, one of its great features is that you can exclude files for projects I specifically exclude the .H0, .HDP and mxfilerelatedcache.mxc2 files.

Keeps everything neat and tidy.

Hi John,

Good idea. I reckon I can do the same with Second Copy.
