Hi and welcome to the forum.

Assuming you have installed the latest drivers for the USB capture device, the latest drivers are here, check the following:

Windows settings, Privacy & Security, Camera and Microphone that the option Let desktop apps access your camera / microphone are both turned on.

If you are connecting the converter via a SCART connector and it has an In/Out switch that it is set to Out.

Have you tried a different USB port?

Do not use a port from a USB hub. It is doubtful it will connect.

Have you tried making sure the player is playing before starting the program to ensure It can see a signal on startup?

Hi

Try restarting the computer - Windows button, Power Button, Restart and see if the USB device appears when plugged in and the program then started.

If not, then open Device Manager and check the USB capture device is listed in the section as shown in the image below?

Yours will have a different name, does it have a yellow exclamation mark alongside it ?

Hi. Yes have tried all four of my usb ports to no avail and yes VHS is always playing when I try to fire up the program. Thankyou for your response. Kind regards
