Hi, have a look in the email you got when you bought MS 2023?

Gid, the Mercalli provided is a standalone version. Admittedly I am only running the trial of 2023, but there appears to be no integration with Mercalli V6 as provided in the "deal" and MMS 2023. This is unlike previous, where Mercalli is available as an Effect.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Hi Gid,

Thank you for the idea. I already downloaded and installed the proDAD Mercalli V6 SAL application and it launches fine. But when I go to Movie Studio / Effects / Video Effects, there is no "proDAD" tile to click on and use within Movie Studio, like I saw in this tutorial (attached).

Former user wrote on 9/18/2022, 7:49 PM

@AAProds Ah, sorry didn't read it properly, I got proDAD Mercalli V6 with VPX14 but i already had it, so i must have got it with MS2023, & yep no sign of V6 in MS or VPX, it is a standalone version.

I do have a proDAD Mercalli V5 that i got a while ago, I don't know maybe a couple of yrs ago, that shows in MEP but not proDAD Mercalli V6

Edit -- yep just been through my emails, i got proDAD Mercalli V6 with MS 2023 & got proDAD Mercalli V5 Suite with MEP2022 Premium.

Hi Gid,

Thanks again for all your help. I went to that proDAD page earlier and only saw Mercalli V5, plus no link to a plugin page. I just sent proDAD.com a message asking how to install their plugin, but my sense is that because Mercalli V6 is so new they might not have one yet.

Oops, you nailed it, no plugin included...looks like I need some new glasses! 🤓

@AlanA Yeah i think that might be the case, I read through it quickly & no obvious sign of 'plugin mentioned.

@AAProds No thanks, I don't use V5 or V6 🤣

@AlanA Keep an eye on the Magix page purchase offers, I've upgraded/rebought MEP a couple of times even though i didn't need to just to get the added extras, last time i upgraded a couple of mths after i'd already paid for an upgrade just to get Newblue TotalFX. So i paid £50-ish in Jan for my reg annual upgrade, but then paid £50-ish again in lets say March for the same Magix product just because it had the TotalFX plugin inc worth 'One-Time Perpetual License $699' 👍

BruceW wrote on 9/18/2022, 9:24 PM

I also missed the fine print about proDAD Mercalli V6 being stand-alone, not a plug-in. I'm a little disappointed. V5 was time-limited. That's the main reason I updated to MS 2023, to get at proDAD Mercalli V6, expecting it would be a plug-in. Them's the breaks!

Hi AAProds,

Thank you for the refund info. 14 days for me would be tomorrow, but my previous version of MEP was 2013 so I’m happy with the upgrade. I’ll see if I like using the proDAD standalone version as a pre-processor for handheld videos, before I import them into MEP 2023.

AlanA wrote on 9/18/2022, 11:12 PM

Thank you too, Gid. I will keep my eye out for upgrades that actually include proDAD plugins!

@AlanA @AAProds @BruceW @Former user

I have absolutely NO evidence or insider knowledge of this but I suspect that Mercalli V6 will never be offered as a plugin, sorry!

The single app includes many more (video "editing") features than V5 (or any previous version) had and my feeling is that ProDAD have targeted it at a much wider market than those of use who like to use plugins.

Of course, I stand to be corrected (or made to look a complete fool!!) 😱

Thanks Jeff, that would be a bummer, not the least of which would be the hassle of transcoding after you'd applied some stabilisation to a clip before bringing it in to MEP/MMS for final production.

I just received this reply from proDAD:

"Hello Mr Anderson Jr,

Thank you for your email.

Mercalli V6 is a completely different concept and is designed for maximum editing speed, especially at 4K. The current MAGIX architecture does not offer us the possibility to install this technology in MAGIX as a plug-in. We are hoping for an extension on the part of the MAGIX developers, so that we can then offer our latest technologies (starting now with Mercalli V6) in MAGIX again in the future. We recommend that you install the demo version of Mercalli V6 and make a speed comparison. This will quickly show you what the new technology is capable of. By the way, you can easily import stabilised clips into MAGIX and process them there. From this point of view, using the stand-alone version (SAL) of Mercalli is already a real time-saver.

Don´t hesitate to contact me for further questions.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen/
With kind regards

@AAProds

Hi Al.

For once I'm going to be serious about my upgrading experience.

Since upgrading to VPX 14 I'm experiencing sudden death of the program where it just vanishes from the desktop.

It happens when applying some of the more processing intensive effects and only if I try to carry on editing once an effect is set up. The program is not freezing up at any point but with Task manager on my other screen I see my GPU continue to do work once an effect is altered and applied. If at that point I try to do anything else before that activity completes (and it can take up to half a minute or more to complete,) is when the program just drops out of use. When I re-open the application and try to reload the project it is as if nothing happened. No crash report and the last effect I tried to apply is completely missing.

So for now I'm not going to upgrade my copy of Movie Edit Pro 2022 which still works without issue and I am seriously considering moving back to VPX 12. It's as if the speed of my system is now no longer fast enough for the newer versions of the program.

Ray.

Ray, no problems, performance-wise with MMS 2023 here; just the same as previous versions. I don't like it because it's SD handling is borked. I've now got two versions, upgrade and full, and I figure that the Mercalli V6 plugin should work with MEP 2021, even if I don't put this 2023 upgrade on my machine. Hmmm.

Thank you for the info. I have MMS 2023, but it appears I still need to buy the Mercalli V6 plugin from proDad for $79. I will have to give that one some thought.

I've emailed Prodad to ask if the upgrade price of $79 is available to those of us who acquired Mercalli V5 and 6 via the various Magix offers.

I can't find any info on it yet, but buying V6 direct from Prodad would probably mean it would be a lifetime licence, whereas the Mercalli V5 I got with MEP 2021 was only a 2 year licence.
